Angelique C. says, "Julie does a great job of settling achievable expectations while nurturing students to become better violinists. She has a wonderful studio adjacent to her home that makes lessons really easy and private. She was wonderful for both our daughters, one a violinist the other a violaist (she even learned the viola to teach our youngest)." Read more

Haley H. says, "Isabelle is great! She really knows how to work with kids to get them interested in learning and having fun while improving skills. It was hard to find someone who is an actual viola player and not someone who knows a little about it because they play violin or another instrument. We’re so glad that we found her. And my son, who can get moody if he doesn’t like something, actually practices and looks forward to lessons. We highly recommend Isabelle. " Read more

Ashley R. says, ""I have only had two teachers in my life who have fundamentally changed how I view my place within the world. The first was a teacher I had in high school who taught me how to apply critical thinking through literature. The second is Amy, who taught me how to be integrated with myself as I walk through the world.  I came to violin partially seeking a connection to my physical body - which after years of ignoring it, had spiraled out of my control. With my time training with Amy as a teacher, multiple times I faced my shortcomings and it definitely led to a lot of frustration as a student. I had to develop more patience, humbleness to failure and an appreciation for the beauty of the violin beyond just its sound. These were things we spoke about frequently and worked together on in many contexts outside of just violin.   Technically speaking, her focus on the fundamentals as drivers for refinement and her eye for connecting them to more advanced topics was paramount for my learning. It cannot be stated enough how important fundamentals are, and Amy definitely did an exceptional job with moving back and forth between fundamentals and more advanced topics. Amy's lessons have a very unique quality - she focuses not just on you as the student who happens to have a violin - but on integrating you together with the violin in order to achieve the greatest level of success possible for the student."" I have been teaching for over twenty years, continuously taking training and doing observations during that time. My goal is to be able to help students development efficient, relaxed technique so they can express themselves freely on their instrument. I am a Suzuki registered teacher, although I also teach traditional lessons. You can look up my profile on https://suzukiassociation.org/ I love seeing students able to express themselves. I especially love it when they own it-the music is not from what I told them to do but they are infusing their playing with their own musical ideas. I love it, too, when they can problem solve. My goal is to

Mr. Glymph was my violin instructor and orchestra director between 2007 and 2013. The importance he has played on my life transcends into existential territory as it was his teachings that allowed me to achieve my dreams in life on top of rapidly improving in violin performance. His "smart practice" method that relies on deliberate and methodical micro improvements, bound together with repetition and consistency is essentially a guidebook to becoming a professional in any field and separating yourself from the masses. I had taken violin lessons for roughly ten years when I met Mr. Glymph as a teenager, and the amount of improvement I made in the first two years with him was probably one hundred-fold without exaggeration. His teaching style is not for everyone, but the sky is the limit if you are serious about music and want to genuinely improve. I eventually made a personal decision to not major in music, and Mr. Glymph was supportive as any mentor should be. I do believe that had I continued to pursue music using his methods I would have had a good career as well. Mr. Glymph is both an incredible violin teacher and a genuine mentor. He is strict but also understanding. Asking him if he could teach me at the Suzuki summer program in 2006-7 was easily one of the best decisions I've made in my life, and when I write a reflection or something in the coming years, his legacy will live on in that piece. Julie is very knowledgeable about music theory and teaching practices. She is very positive and motivating for my 7 year old child. She always knows the right thing to say or technique/teaching strategy to introduce to help my daughter keep on progressing each week. We couldn’t ask for a better teacher!

Isabelle is very hard working teacher, and what I admire most is the immense patience she has for the mistakes I make. Rather than forcing improvements, she always finds way to make me understand how I can rectify my mistakes.

"As a working professional adult woman at a point in my life when I decided to shift some focus more to my own interests and self-development, I decided to begin studying violin later in life - something I've wanted to do for a very long time.  Having no previous musical experience at all, Amy Foley was encouraging and supportive from the start -- teaching me important basic fundamentals such as instrument care, balance, movement, positioning, intonation, and how to read sheet music.  Amy has a wonderfully deep understanding of music theory and is clear and thorough in her explanations.  Her patient and positive demeanor made me feel good about the progress I was making; and when I seemed stuck at any point, she came up with creative and applicable suggestions and exercises to help me over any hurdles.  Studying violin has given me a greater appreciation for music as well -- I find myself listening to music differently, and the experience is now enhanced because I find myself noticing things which I learned during my lessons, e.g., how compositions come together to make the whole. And I've learned to hear more of the emotion in music because of what I've learned during my lessons; and Amy, with her talent and quiet sense of humor, has made the experience an absolute joy!"
