About
I'm intuitive, and yet have a ton of experience & training. I work super well with teens all the way up to Senior Citizens. I use Shurtleff's 12 Guideposts, but also imagery, & First Folio technique for Shakespeare & heightened language. I love helping those with less experience move their work & their process forward. I have a Jeff Citation, a Jeff award nomination, & 2 After Dark Awards for my acting, & traveled to Turkey on a MacArthur Grant to be in Ibsen's GHOSTS!(www.actingstudiochicago.com to see bio)
I find one on one coaching to be super fulfilling, creative, and COLLABORATIVE.
I love reading plays to find monologues & scenes, & instilling that love, that curiosity, in my students. I like to help actors do the deliberative work of scene analysis so that it becomes closer to 2nd nature to help them make bold, but smart, choices out of the gate. I've been coaching for almost 18 years, teaching for 17, directing for 12, acting...FOREVER!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to have a 10 minute phone chat to get to know them & their level a bit, see if I need to gather monologues & or scenes for them, & schedule that 1st meeting via Zoom while Covid is still raging
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
A BA in Theatre from Florida State, and numerous workshops here in Chicago. I've also taught DePaul graduating BFA students, at Triton, North Central, & Columbia Colleges, on an island in Canada, & The Performer's School, as well as my long time; ongoing gig at ACTING STUDIO CHICAGO.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$90/hour
How did you get started teaching?
I found my friends were always asking me for help on their auditions, and even when they were working professionally, they would ask me to attend previews to give them notes.
What types of students have you worked with?
Teens quite a bit at ASC in their summer programs, in Canada, & privately, but mostly adults. I also taught Senior Citizens in two studies for the NIH.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In late February, before Covid, I completed a run of Sharon in THE ROOMMATE ( a two-woman show) at Cardinal Stage in Bloomington, Indiana, and had just completed casting Sarah Ruhl's EURYDICE at Moraine Valley Community College. Then...the doors were closed --Urgh!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure it's someone who asks you to do the work & challenges you, but still revels in the fun, the PLAY, of it all.
