Jessica T. Carter has served as a teaching artist and a music teacher for the South Bend Community School Corporation and the South Bend Empowerment Zone. Having created a thorough curriculum in music theory, practice, and performance, Ms. Carter's approach to teaching involves detail-oriented instruction, thorough and adaptable communication for a diverse range of learners and thinkers, exposure to a variety of musical concepts, and most importantly helping students to develop independent skills for learning, practicing, problem-solving, and critical thinking for all their future challenges.
Music is my passion and sharing that passion with others is the ultimate gift I can give them. That is what I enjoy most about this work - sharing the passion of music.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first lesson is half off, as it's all about me getting to know the student and their family as well as where their strengths lie win their specific disicipline so I can build a lesson plan for them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 3 professional degrees in music, 5+ years teaching experience both in a public setting and in a private setting, and over 2 decades worth of training and performance experience in violin, voice, and music composition
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are offered once a week in music theory, violin, voice, and chamber group coaching. My rates are $45 for 30 minute session, and $60 for hour long session. The first lesson is half off as well, any additional lessons in a give week are also half off.
How did you get started teaching?
I started in high school, strictly on violin. Continued in college added voice and music composition. I taught as a TA and GA in college and graduate school. Taught in South Bend schools for 3 years.

I've worked with all types of students from all different backgrounds and skill levels.
