Tessa is an experienced teacher. She has taught in the Kansas City metro area for over 20 years. Her approach is fun and engaging. Tessa is well rounded in all the styles of dance and yoga. From ballet to hip hop you can find a lesson that will help you thrive.
Tessa van Dieren Choreographer | Dancer Instructor | Yoga Teacher
Tessa van Dieren received her training from Dennis and Kathy Landsman in classical ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, character, pantomime, flamenco, and tap. In her youth, Tessa danced with American Youth Ballet (also known as the Kansas Regional Ballet). She later trained on scholarship with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater in New York and was the recipient of the Craft of Choreography scholarship from Regional Dance America for two consecutive years. Tessa also studied with the State Ballet of Missouri (now the Kansas City Ballet) and Dance St. Louis under the direction of Todd Bolender.
Locally, Tessa appeared in the Lyric Opera productions of Carmen (as a gypsy) and Pagliacci (as Teresita), Starlight Theater productions of Evita and Cinderella, and Theater in the Park's production of Oklahoma. Internationally, Tessa studied with the Rotterdam Dance Theater in the Netherlands and attended a teacher training program with National Ballet School of Canada. She danced professionally as a principal dancer with Central Dance Theater for several seasons.
Her career as a dance instructor of 17 years includes teaching with her mentors Dennis and Kathy Landsman at the American Dance Center, as well as with the Kansas City Ballet School and their outreach program Reach Out and Dance (ROAD). Tessa also served as Director of Dance with Trilogy Cultural Arts Center where she choreographed and directed productions including Alice in Wonderland, The Nutcracker, and The Wizard of Oz.
Tessa began her teaching career teaching at the MidtownSchool of Dance under the direction of Kim Shope. Tessa is currently judging regional dance competitions and teaching locally in Kansas City. She recently received her RYT 200 yoga certification from the Yoga Education Institute in California and is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. Her mission is to inspire love for the art of dance in students of all ages, sizes, and talents.
