About

I have been dancing since a Sophmore in college. I started out in Ballroom dance class and loved dance. So I continued with Latin, Swing and performance dancing. I then took private lessons from a national American Rhythm champion for a year. I moved out to the KC area and started teaching at TC Dance in January of 2012 after teaching at the local community center in Overland Park. I then moved to Allegro Ballroom in 2017 and then took the leap to independent dance teacher in 2018. I have a lot of fun with my students and teach in a way that is fun, knowledgeable and progressive. My degree is in Exercise and Sport Science in Physical Education. So everything that I learned to apply as a classroom teacher I can use in my lessons with students. The most important point is that many of my students have become life long friends.

I'm certified with the Dance Vision or Dvida syallabus, but I also teach the Carolina Shag, which is a lot of fun.

I've competed twice in the Heart of America Smooth Competition in Kansas City, MO.

My facebook account is https://www.facebook.com/fundancing7/ and my web page is https://shnathayovel.wixsite.com/stclairdancing.

The facebook page has many videos from couples I've taught or from group classes that I'm teaching right now.

    Frequently asked questions

A student comes in for a Sample lesson first.  At that time I start to get to know the student what they want out of dancing.  Whether it's a wedding couple or just for fun or a father daughter dance, or whatever reason they want to dance.  I then find out what type of dancing they are interested in.  Whether they are interested in Ballroom, Latin or Rhythm or Swing dances or even Country dancing.  From that point the person or couple start learning what they have come in for and also relationships are built over the time.

B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science and an option in Physical Education.

Trained in Arthur Murry style dancing and also from Dance Vision or DVida trained.

    $30.00 for sample lesson

$75.00 for 40 minute private lesson

$85.00 for 50 minute private lesson

Group classes are $10.00 per person

Private group classes are $85.00 for up to 4 people, after the 4th person it's 10 dollars per person

I started teaching back at Oregon State University for fun, while taking private lessons.  When I moved to the Kansas City area, I started working at TC dance in 2012 and now am an independent instructor.  I started at TC after teaching at the local Overland Park, KS community center.

I worked with students of all ages, both male and female.  With men it's more about styling and movement, power and grace and the anatomy that a man uses throughout the dance.  With women, I teach them whatever dances the would like to learn, within their abilities and health.  I talk about styling after a while, anatomy and power, strength, grace, posture and movement.

Does the teacher fit within your price range?  Does the teacher after the first or second lesson seem pushy to get more lessons?  How long has the teacher been dancing and also what is their education in?  Does the personality of the teacher fit with the couple (or in my case the lady) after a couple lessons.

    Their income level.

What they are coming in for.  What reasons; is it something to do together, wedding dance, learning to dance for a prom, wanting to get into Ballroom competition.

Where does the teacher teach, how big the floor is (that affects how many teachers can be on the floor at the same time), the availabilty of the teacher and flexibility of their schedule to the students schedule.
