Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
At our first meeting, my primary goal is to make my new students feel comfortable and welcomed while understanding their objectives in pursuing vocal study. Once we've discussed their experience and goals, we work through some vocal exercises together. These grow increasingly tailored to each student as I listen and respond to their singing. We may also begin working on a piece of music that is relevent to their goals. Once I have had a chance to assess them vocally, we discuss a trajectory for reaching their goals in light of their current level.

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching lessons while I was in school and soon discovered that I love helping other people learn to sing as much as I loved singing myself!
What types of students have you worked with?
All Types-- children, teens, and adults at varying levels. My specialty is working with professional singers and with singers who are recovering from a compromise in vocal health.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My favorite part of being a voice teacher is helping my students find their best and most authentic voice. I love seeing the look on my students' faces when they make a beautiful sound they didn't know they were capable of or find an easier, healthier way of doing something with their voice. From helping beginners explore their vocal potential to working intensively with advanced singers, I love the opportunity teaching gives me to help all kinds of people use their voices confidently and joyfully.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. It's important to find a teacher that is a good fit for you!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about what, specifically, you would like to accomplish with your voice and why.
