Found Through Sound
About
The name for my business finally came together after many years of working through my own journey with art and dance. Found through Sound, represents the understanding I hope to bring as an instructor of dance and art. I focus on what makes each student unique and work to bring out what will help develop your natural skills, comfort and confidence. By connecting to the inspiration and vision you want to bring out in yourself, we will use our tools and time to open you up as an artist. That's where the fun really starts!
I focus on building your foundation by understanding key ideas, techniques and elements. I will of course help guide your progress, however, with the goal of having your own artistic freedom branch from these foundational elements. You will make mistakes, feel awkward and maybe even think you just can't. By doing so, you will find the ability to explore your creativity rather than just checking off of a list of instructions I give to fulfill someone else's vision. That creativity will be connected directly to what you want to feel through dance or artwork. From there, you can become a true artist, dancer, creator within the continuing development of your own expression. Whether you are looking for a fun hobby, setting health goals, or building a more serious professional skill, I am ready to help you find your own way through all this sound.
In partner dance, we will focus on ideas of balance, weighted movement, connection and the dynamics of partnership to help you build a foundation that can help make you an actual dancer understanding your body and how to move with someone else in any style of dance. Memorization, patterns, style will not be our primary focus but will develop on their own with advancing body & partnership awareness. Knowing your own body will help you go anywhere from dancing on a competition floor to dancing on your living room floor!
In drawing lessons, we focus on the partnership between you and your work, whether professionally related or as a creative and easy outlet. Connecting to what you want to see from your work, and why you take the time to create that work will shape your own skill set. We will have specific exercises to practice and pieces to complete, as we develop the connection between you, your medium, and the art you want to explore.
Personally, I have been working, teaching & learning with art/dance for over 20 years. I have been working as a professional either by employment or independently for the past 10 years. I have competed and still compete regularly in various dance styles including waltz, tango, salsa and swing (east & west coast). I have also been certified as a Full Silver level instructor for American & International styles of dance. I enter or organize my own art exhibits where I showcase and sometimes sell my own artwork. Regardless of how difficult or financially limited artistry can become, I live the life of an artist and would not chose any other path.
I enjoy most the two way discovery that develops from working with a student that is openly ready to take on their own creative journey.
To learn about a student's mindset, values and the goals for their creative work is very inspiring for building my own skills and helps make focus towards how to help bring out my student's best work. To see and feel when something clicks together for a student and know that they have just gone further into understanding their own body or their own style of artwork is the real motivation for what I do and is my fuel beyond money, materials or success. It is often said a more complete and connected understanding, whether through fine art, dance or any other media, is where we are able to find our deepest energy, find new paths for relaxation and make stronger bonds that will help people experience and maybe even understand our own perspective.
