Caitlin N. says, "Royal Palace Dance Studio did an fabulous job teaching me and my fiancée how to dance for our wedding. They choreographed a full routine to a customized mix of music that our DJ created specifically for us. Our family and guest at the wedding were completely blown away because we are shy and we are not dancers. At first I thought 40 lessons was going to be too much but as it terned out, it was perfect amount. We looked forward to our dance lessons because it was like our date night. Now we have a fun hobby that we can do together for the rest of our lives! Thank you Royal Palace - your Wedding Dance Specialist are truly the best and we researched a lot of studios. You made our wedding day memorable and dancing our First Dance together was my most favorite part of our Wedding day! " Read more

I love seeing my students apply what they have learned with me. It's when they get that "a-ha" moment that I know I've made a difference. I've been given the gift of teaching and have applied it in several areas to help students overcome obstacles and achieve goals.

Christine G. says, "I joined 180 Fitness in March 2018 and trained with Terrie for 12 weeks. My goal was to lose weight and ton up, both of which I accomplished. Terrie is very motivating and knowledgeable in her field. At the end of the 12 weeks, I opted to sign up for the classes. I attend the Spin and Boot Camp and have met some wonderful people. The gym is very clean and equipment well kept. Highly recommend checking it out. " Read more

Your Dance Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much are dance classes?

Kids group dance lessons cost $60 to $200 per month, or $40 per week on average. Private dance lessons for adults cost $50 to $85 per hour, depending on the location, dance type, number of lessons, and session length.

Wedding dance lessons cost $50 to $150 per hour or $500 to $2,500 for a package of 10 to 20 classes.

What should I wear to a dance class?

Most dance classes are casual and focus more on comfort and form than style. What you wear to a dance class depends on the dance type:

  • Ballet and jazz require form-fitting clothes so your form and posture is visible.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothes and shoes to contemporary or street classes.
  • Wear fitness or leisure clothes and tap shoes to tap dance lessons.
  • Wear casual clothes, smooth-soled shoes, or dresses to ballroom, tango, or salsa classes.

Are private dance lessons worth it?

Private dance lessons are an excellent way to gain new skills in a low-stakes environment, but they may not be for everybody. Private lessons are worth it if you:

  • Value privacy
  • Want to make progress quickly
  • Feel more comfortable one-on-one instead of in groups
  • Want direct feedback on technique
  • Need a class that conforms to your schedule

How long are dance classes?

Most dance classes last 30 to 90 minutes and meet 1 to 5 times per week, depending on the dance type and age range. Dance classes for children tend to meet more often for shorter sessions because children tend to benefit more from frequent, consistent lessons. Casual adult lessons tend to meet fewer times per week but are usually longer.

How do I choose a dance teacher?

Start by browsing our dance instructors, then:

  • Get three or more free estimates to compare.
  • Examine reviews on Lessons and Google.
  • Choose an experienced, reputable instructor.
  • Get a written estimate and timetable before the first lesson.
  • Follow a payment schedule instead of making a large payment up front.

After asking questions and verifying credentials, hire the best dance teacher in your area.

What questions should I ask dance instructors?

When looking for local dance companies, consider asking the following questions:

  • How long have you been in business?
  • Can you give me an estimate in writing?
  • Do you teach private lessons or group lessons only?
  • What dances do you specialize in?
  • What ages are you used to teaching?
  • Are your lessons entry-level or intermediate?

The instructors and volunteers are all friendly and a joy to work with! It’s incredible to watch the kids AND adults as they start to tackle moves they never thought possible before and to be able to watch them blossom and grow into tiny or not so tiny dancers along the way! This studio is definitely recommended if you are looking to learn in general or learn more in the dance or theatre realm! Low income or not, this is affordable to all and they will work with you according to your budget!

Everything! The teachers are highly skilled both at dance and at teaching. The studio atmosphere is extremely welcoming and friendly - especially to beginners. The parties attract students at all skill levels. And the music is great!

In addition to attaining strength/fitness, everyone is supportive and NICE! This makes working out not seem like a 'job' but more of a fun activity. Terrie is so very knowledgeable and knows what you are physically capable of -- often modifying routines for those of us with 'issues'; e.g., bad back, arthritis areas, etc.
