Drum & Theory Lessons
About
An honors music graduate of Amherst College, I have played the drums for over 9 years in a wide range of styles going from punk, indie, rock and alternative bands to hip-hop gigs to jazz and orchestral works to playing on a live band for musicals. I approach the drums from an open perspective, being able to blend with different styles while always keeping it fun to play--and most importantly, to listen to!
I'm here to provide a solid base for your drum and/or music theory skills studying both in paper and practice. We can develop a customized lesson plan based off your interest, or we can do a general curriculum surveying through different styles!
Seeing students grow from taking their first steps in rudiments, technique and music literacy to creating their original beats and licks reminds me of my own journey through the drums--when I first picked up a pair of (not-drum) sticks and decided that this was something I wanted to learn. Being able to build the discipline, resilience and sensitivity to ultimately create original work that we can share with other musicians and people in general is a true blessing that is truly to be celebrated!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
During the first lesson, we would spend some time assessing the student's level and interests. What do you listen to? What do you like (or would you like) to play? How long have you been playing the drums for? This
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a music degree from Amherst College. During my time there, I taught lessons to other students (especially composition students that wanted to get a sense of how the drums work... or others that just wanted to play for fun!) I have played in school and community jazz ensembles, small jazz trios for-hire, and different types of bands (originals and covers).
