Chris Uy learned ballroom, rhythm and latin style dancing at a young age by dancing in his sock feet. He was told he was a natural as he “felt the dance from the soul and in his heart.” He have won several regional and national titles in the same corporation and is also many times over - a world and national Rhythm finalist. He performed in the Dancing with Desire show for 4 years and has danced in at least 30 showcases so far in his career.
Chris has been teaching dance for more than a decade –from Florida to Boston, and has traveled throughout the New England area as a coach, judge and has performed in professional shows for corporate dance companies. He has worked with Maks, Val, Tony, Fabian Sanchez, and Elena from Dancing with the Stars. He has also worked with many experienced coaches, on the professional level, including Christina Penatello, Christine Harvey, Martin Lamb, George Hendricks, and Bruno Trillegi.
Chris Uy is well versed in all forms of ballroom dance and has achieved up to gold certifications in American Rhythm and Smooth. He is experienced teaching in Smooth, Rhythm, Latin, Standard, and Theatre Arts.
His testimonials are extensive from being considered “patient, fun and encouraging.” He believes in hard work, perseverance and enjoying the experience.
Chris has participated in over 70 pro-am competitions over the past 12 years and has earned the Top Teacher ranking continuously. Last year, alone, he taught over 2,000 private lessons.
Chris believes in keeping the dancing affordable and has set the rates to make becoming an excellent dancer achievable. Chris sets reasonable goals for his students, while encouraging them to “reach for the stars” and become the dancer they never thought they could be. Chris has retained many students for years and taken them from beginning to very high levels of amateur achievement. He takes great pride in his students’ success and enjoys every minute of every day on the dance floor! There is no place he would rather be.
He has studied physics and anatomy so he understands how the body works to achieve the highest limit of success, while keeping the students healthy and strong. He is a second degree black belt in Tae kawn Do and studies bio mechanics as a hobby.
