Karoliny M. says, "Working with Debra has been one of the most enriching experiences of my artistic journey. She’s not just an acting coach, she’s a true mentor and a beautiful soul who genuinely cares about her students. Debra went above and beyond my expectations, offering not only top-tier professional guidance but also heartfelt support that made every session feel safe, inspiring, and empowering. The professional acting training I received from Debra was worth every penny. I saw a return on my investment with not only a major boost in my confidence and skill as an actress and model, but more importantly, I landed paid lead roles, and that is truly worth celebrating! Her techniques are masterful, clear, and transformative, she knows exactly how to unlock the potential in each person she works with. What started as a student-coach relationship quickly blossomed into a connection filled with trust and mutual respect. I wholeheartedly and confidently, highly recommend her professional acting coaching training and all of her acting classes to anyone who wants to grow, not only as an actor but as a human being. Debra is simply the best." Read more

Henry P. says, "Alina does an awesome job at tailoring her lesson to me. As a young adult with over 7 years of active music experience, but limited vocal experience, I've been able to get a lot from our many lessons. She's able to pick out what I need to work on the most from week to week." Read more

I have been involved with Theatre for over 25 years. I've worked professionally on stage as well as non professionally on the community theater level. I have a very good understanding and experience in preparing for auditions as well as making appropriate and helpful acting choices on stage. I have taught children as well as adults, I am very patient and understanding, I'm fully aware of the stresses and pressure of being a new actor as well as honing my skills as a more seasoned actor. I am patient and I do not teach based on ego or esteem. I enjoy and pride myself on teaching based on simple and honest acting skills. I look forward to help...

I love working with children and I have been working in the theater since high school when I found a children's theater company. I studied theater at Northwestern University, where I am a board member of the entertainments arts alliance. I represented actors for over 15 years in Los Angeles and often help them with their audition process. I also did various internships and casting. I always loved when my clients booked a job and I could be on set watching them act! I was especially proud, when the film or television show aired. Since then as an executive producer, working with my talent on set and the Director and helping the artistic vision...

My business stands out because I do. Forty years of professional credits, beginning while still in school. My students learn more than acting technique; through a familiarity with what has come before this moment and that they can be a part of shaping what's to come. We're each of us a unique entity. No two people will play the same Hamlet or Annie, because we bring ourselves to the role. My task, as teacher is to free the student to be honest and unafraid to be their own Hamlet....

Your Acting Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do acting classes cost?

Acting classes cost $25 to $65 per hour on average for group classes or $50 to $150+ per hour to hire a private acting coach. Prices vary depending on where you live and the instructor's experience and reputation. Acting studios that offer ongoing weekly classes typically charge $150 to $350 per month.

Acting courses and workshops can cost as little as $200 to as much as $2,800+, depending on the content, number of sessions, and the instructor's demand. Some acting workshops are short, 1- or 2-day intensive classes focusing on one aspect of the industry, while other programs last 4 to 8 weeks and cover several topics, methods, and techniques.

Most studios offer a free trial class so you can get a feel for the teaching style and decide if it's right for you.

Are online acting classes worth it?

Online acting classes are worth it if you want to pursue acting and are unable to attend acting classes in person. With online video calling platforms like Zoom and Skype, you can now study acting with the best in the industry from the comfort of your own home! Many reputable acting coaches—including those right here on Lessons—now offer online acting classes and teach the same methods and techniques that they teach in the studio.

Do you need acting classes to become an actor?

You technically don't need acting classes to become an actor. However, acting classes can help you gain confidence, learn new methods and techniques, analyze scenes and scripts, and build new industry connections and relationships. Acting classes can also teach you about the business side of acting, which is as important as acting itself.

How long do acting classes take?

Acting class length varies depending on the studio and the type of class. Some studios have 2-hour classes, while others have classes lasting 3 to 5 hours. Depending on the location, acting classes may be offered in several formats, such as ongoing weekly classes, weekend intensive workshops, and training programs that can run anywhere from 2 to 8+ weeks.

What skills do you need to be an actor?

While the necessary skillset varies depending on the type of acting you pursue (think Broadway theater vs. TV commercials vs. film), all actors need a broad range of skills to portray the expressions and emotions of a character so effectively that they temporarily transport the audience to a world where the actor is indeed that character. This often involves:

  • Memorizing lines and stage cues
  • Analyzing scripts and scenes
  • Developing a character's emotions and physical expressions
  • Working with other actors, directors, and production crews
  • Adapting to unexpected changes and situations
  • Speaking clearly and adjusting one's voice to align with the character
  • Learning and developing different acting methods and techniques
  • Being comfortable in front of an audience or camera

my 10-y-o daughter had her first lesson with Sara today. Sara is amazing! She is so warm and playful and creative and my daughter felt instantly comfortable with her and she learned a lot in just one hour. As a parent of a dyslexic child, I feel so grateful that Sara has experience working with kids with special needs and it shows in her patience and encouragement. And Sara has been wonderful about communicating with me. I couldn't recommend her more!

Alina is everything you could want in a vocal teacher. Not only is she an incredible vocalist, but she has a very deep understanding on how to properly use your vocals and the mechanics of everything. She has great attention to detail. She listens very intently to her students and is able to pinpoint what their strengths and weaknesses are in order to tailor the lessons to their needs. Even after my very first lesson with her, she taught me things about my voice that I’ve never noticed before, and was able to gain an understanding of my voice. She’s really patient and creates a positive atmosphere, making you feel comfortable to sound funny, or even bad! HIGHLY recommend her!

Jimmy is amazing!!! He's patient, kind and honest. He always has great feedback for my 11-year-old and focuses on the things he's good at while giving attention to the things that still need work! He goes at his speed and keeps him on task while still having fun!

Kristen is an amazing teacher! She is so knowledgeable, patient, and kind. Our 10 year old son has taken voice and piano lesson with her for 2 years now. He is on the Autism spectrum and on days he is struggling, she has adapted the lesson quickly to meet his needs. One of my favorite things she does with him is connecting music to different emotions. I think this has helped so much with his ability to identify different emotions in peoples voices, even when speaking. It’s also helped him use different tones of voice to express emotions. She has also introduced him to yoga, which he loves and says helps his body feel calm and focused. I just love the connection she has made with him. He has grown so much through his experiences in music lessons with her. He adores Ms. Kristen and always looks forward to his lessons with her.
