Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with new students, we start building the foundation for dancing from the ground up. First, we start off teaching you the basic steps to the four major dances; the Waltz, Rumba, Foxtrot, and Swing during private lessons which are one on one with the dance instructor.
As you integrate the basic steps into your muscle memory, we introduce more steps, show you how to move around the room, and work on teaching you musicality, and how to lead and follow.
Learning to dance is a process, and it takes time to develop it as a skill, but once you learn how to dance, it will be a skill you have for the rest of your lives!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Every Fred Astaire Dance Studio instructor is a gifted dance educator with a passion for dance. Fred Astaire dance instructors hail from all over the world. Many have Fine Arts degrees, and are actively competing and award-winning professional dancers. And all have completed the rigorous work required to become, and remain, certified in the Fred Astaire Dance Curriculum - a proven teaching method that was developed by Fred Astaire, and is unique to our organization. Collectively, Fred Astaire dance instructors are dedicated to helping you discover the joy of ballroom dancing, and to making your learning experience enjoyable, educational - and FUN!

How did you get started teaching?
All of our instructors started dancing at a young age, and are so passionate about their dancing that they moved on to become dance instructors themselves to share the joys of ballroom dancing with everyone.
What types of students have you worked with?
We teach both singles and couples who are looking for fun, stress relief, exercise, to prepare for an wedding/event/anniversary/cruise, or just to start an exciting hobby!
As long as you can walk, you can learn how to dance! As Fred Astaire once said, "Some people seem to think that good dancers are born, but all the good dancers I have known are taught or trained".
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event that we really loved was our annual Harvest Tea Dance & Trophy Ball this past October. It was a beautiful afternoon of dancing. This event serves as our graduation ceremony as students progress from one level of dancing to the next, and so we are proud of this event and of our student's accomplishments. The students even had a chance to perform honor dances to show their dancing successes.
We also had an amazing dessert buffet, and mimosa bar which the students seemed to really love. Everyone was commenting on what a great atmosphere the studio had!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My advice I would give to students looking for a dance studio to call home is to check it out, see how it feels. See if you feel comfortable dancing there, that you like the atmosphere, and make sure the teacher you have found is the best fit!
