FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Finding out what they enjoy and are interested in musically, realizing where they are in their skill set, beginner, intermediate or advanced. What gear they do or don't have and whether they plan to invest in equipment or not (usually that's a yes).  I like to find out a ball park of what they do or don't know about counting/readying/playing, basic experience then start a plan from there.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I'm a professional singing - drummer of 35 years, studio and live experience.  Traveled all around the world touring with acts as well as teaching over 25 years. With drum corps, orchestra, marching band, concert band, rock, funk, jazz, country, latin, dixie land jazz, new orleans style funk and much more experience in styles, I have a very well rounded education for teaching drums. I enjoy teaching people to get in touch with their own rhythm and enjoy being around kids.

How did you get started teaching?

I enjoy sharing information, love drums and love to see people happy when they realize their own capabilities in rhythm.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Today my young student learn some very advanced information and it was a major turning point for him. He doesn't realize it yet, but I do!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Make sure you like them, you feel you can learn from them and you respect their own talents.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Can you teach me?  Will I learn from you and enjoy it? Can I move forward with your instruction.
