About

I've been lucky enough to study with some amazing teachers during my time at Eastman and Peabody and I'm excited to pass that experience on to you. I've performed across the U.S. as a percussionist, and have had my compositions performed both nationally and internationally from Texas to Japan by a number of wonderful ensembles.

I'm here to help you explore your creativity and make music as your heart desires! I can teach across a wide range of abilities and levels of experience, from basic melody and chord writing to advanced chord voicing, song form, and orchestration. I'm currently pursuing an MM degree in Composition and Theory Pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins, and I have a BM degree in Percussion and Music Theory from the Eastman School of Music.

My favorite experiences in teaching are the moments when the student begins to freely explore all the musical ideas that cross their mind. Those experiences demystify the music-making process—and it inspires me to see students who are empowered to make the music they want to hear and play! I love working with musicians of all ages from various walks of life, making new curriculums for each student tailored to specific points of musical interest and inspiration.

    Frequently asked questions

I start by getting to know the student, learning what types of music they like and want to create.  Through that process, I also learn what past / present musical experiences the student has (e.g. whether or not they read music, what instrument(s) they play).  Also important to know is what resources they have access to for music making—is the goal to write music on a computer program, to play drum set, to learn how to ace a sight-singing dictation, etc.?  From there, I design a curriculum specifically for the student, sometimes creating exercises myself and other times using method books or similar available resources.

I completed my BM in Percussion and Music Theory at the Eastman School of Music, and am currently pursuing an MM in Composition and Music Theory Pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins.  In 2015, I was employed by the Islip Arts Council to teach beginner piano lessons to students of all ages.  I am currently a composition teacher in Peabody's Junior Bach program, and I will soon participate in a teaching internship as part of Peabody's Music Theory Pedagogy program.

For now, my rate is between $50 and $60 per hour across all disciplines that I teach.  If you aren't able to afford this rate, but would still like to try lessons with me, let me know and we can discuss!

I have worked with students between the ages of 4 and 65.  Some were retired and wanted to take on a new hobby, some were young students who really loved music.  Some were very outgoing, and some were quite shy, but all of my students have come to enjoy making music during their time in lessons.
