Amy B. says, "I really enjoyed the recitals and the gold cups.   It was always nice to be rewarded for hard work!  Overall, I know that the Suzuki method really helped me advance quickly because I was always more advanced than my friends taking other lessons.  Knowing that I was actually good at something was the biggest motivation.   I loved the Suzuki music!  I still go through the last few books when I have the chance.  I think the structure of the program and variety in music was excellent.    Through high school, I was self motivated because I was able to pick pieces I wanted to play based on my skills I had learned in the Suzuki program.  I was able to learn Chopin, my favorite composer of all time.  :)  I also was able to compete in piano competitions and one concerto competition for the GR Youth Symphony.  I know for a fact that I wouldn't have been able to get to that level without the proper training that I received with the Suzuki program.   Amy Buth, medical student, neuro surgeon " Read more

Bruce Ling, one of Michigan's finest musical treasures, is a River-side mystic, eloquent storyteller and passionate caretaker of America's collection of traditional music. Raised in a multi-faceted musical family, Bruce found his calling at the ripe age of eight, earning his first $5 playing in a garage on Chicago’s South Side for a birthday party. He grew up learning from many older musicians, and became the recipient of a vast amount of “Oral Tradition”: songs and stories passed on from older to younger generations. He has since honed an extraordinary repertoire of traditional string-band tunes from near and far. He plays with equal flair ...

I have taught the fundamentals of playing guitar and banjo for over 30 years. The very first thing is that the student needs to understand how music theory works. Once they get on that path the doors of possibilities are endless. I also give discounts to veterans.

First of all, if you are looking for a guitar teacher who really knows the instrument both theoretically as well as practically, then I assure you that Steve is that. He has helped me enormously in my journey to become an actual musician. In addition to being knowledgable, he is supportive of my efforts and never makes me feel small or less then. If you decide to work with Steve you can expect that he can accurately assess where you are musically and help you move forward toward your musical goals. We have had a great experience working with Southtown Guitar over the past 3 years! Our two boys have taken guitar lessons and I feel that their teachers at Southtown really took the time to get to know them and tailor their teaching style to work with them. Our boys have continued to progress and enjoy their lessons and I couldn't be happier!

David gives me helpful tips to correct things about my singing technique and make them better. He has helped me tremendously with my foreign language songs. He finds ways to explain how he would like me to sing something differently and how it would help make me sound better, in a way that makes sense to me. He is also very friendly, experienced and very approachable. I like hearing him tell me about his time in performances. I enjoy having voice lessons with David very much.
