What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We will determine your goals and look at the students strengths and weaknesses to facilitate the best plan for achieving their musical goals. For the moment lessons will be online but in the future can be set up at my home studio in Detroit or at your home or studio. Lessons are based on each individual's needs.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Jeff has been a mainstay in the Detroit and national music scene for over thirty years. Growing up in a musical environment, Jeff's father is noted Motown trumpeter and band leader Johnny Trudell. Starting to play at 3 and working professional engagements by 10, Jeff had a huge advantage working with the biggest names in show business. An interlochen camper and Wayne state jazz studies student, Jeff studied with some of the greatest drummers including Louie Bellson, Walfredo Reyes Sr., Roy Burns and many others.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

The system depends on the individual which sets Jeff apart from many of his contemporaries. Individualized service to each student is the key.

How did you get started teaching?

Jeff Trudell started teaching at 16 years of age working then for the famous Drum Shop in Dearborn owned by George Hamilton, from there Jeff opened his own drum shop in 1992 being the youngest drum shop owner at 23 years old and it was the oldest drum shop at the time in the United States. A focused teaching studio with 4 teachers and a curriculum put in place by Jeff's years of teaching and playing experience lead many great students not only learning but using the knowledge to become professional drummers as well.

What types of students have you worked with?

All types from beginners to pros, children and adults with disabilities, everyone with a desire to play drums is welcomed.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

The Jeff Trudell big band just did an engagement for the yearly Real Estate One corporation with over one thousand attendees at The Motor City Casino Hotel Ballroom opposite the band your generation.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Look for someone who is a wonderful communicator and knows music very well. Good relationships are based on a mutual love and desire but you must remember to have fun ! That's why it's playing music and not working music !

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Think about your goals and what you want to do with the lesson information. How can the student apply that knowledge to make the drums more fun, interesting and fulfilling.
