Yvette’s Dance Lessons
About
I have been dancing and teaching competition level dancers at a highly regarded dance studio in Minnesota for over 20 years. During my time as a dancer, I competed at the highest level, receiving National awards. The highlights of my career were appearing in Super Bowl XXVI halftime and four episodes of the nationally televised talent show, Star Search. I was also a dancer and coach for three years for the NBA Timberwolves Performance Team. I am a very effective coach and teacher who loves working with kids to help them quickly gain technical skills, particularly turns, leaps, jumps and elements of performance. I teach contemporary, jazz, lyrical, tap, ballet, and Latin.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We talk about what their current skill level is and what their goals are. Then we break down the skills they are working on and/or would like to achieve. We use body awareness, exercises, and physiology concepts to create the muscle memory needed for each skill.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been in the competition dance world for over 35 years. I trained and taught at Larkin Dance Studio in MN.

How did you get started teaching?
I have been teaching since graduating from high school/Larkin Dance Studio, but really began teaching students when my own children began competing in dance as well in 2004.
What types of students have you worked with?
Competition and recreational students in contemporary, jazz, lyrical, ballet, tap, and Latin.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be picky about who you choose. Good coaches and teachers will meet you where you are, help you progress with technically sound methods and exercises and expect your best at all times.
