Lynne R. says, "Coach Douge Schildgen worked with my grandson this spring to help him improve his batting skills. My grandson had participated in Little League for two seasons prior to meeting Douge, and because his hitting was inconsistent and he was striking out a fair amount of the time, his self-confidence had started to waver. It took only a couple of lessons for us to see a big difference in my grandson’s form and to notice an assertiveness in his swing that he hadn't had before. Douge encouraged him to practice his stance in front of the mirror for a few minutes each day, and my grandson took Douge’s advice to heart. Practice indeed made a difference. Douge currently coaches a high school baseball team, and he has gained a tremendous amount of experience from his many years of coaching. He exudes knowledge, is a highly skilled (and patient) instructor, and my grandson always looked forward to his lessons. Douge is a delight to work with. He is reliable, committed to his craft, and his work, without a doubt, warrants at least a five-star rating. If you're going to interview several batting instructors, make sure that Douge is among them. You'll want your player to receive topnotch instruction, which is something you'll get from Coach Douge." Andrea L. says, "Tom created lessons to meet my son where is was and helped him improve in all areas. So much that his coaches mentioned that my son’s game was now on a higher level than the previous season. Selfishly I don’t want him to get too busy and he’s a great coach. I would highly recommend." Your Baseball Training questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do private baseball lessons cost?

Private baseball lessons cost $50 to $75 per 30-minute lesson and $80 to $140 per 1-hour lesson. The price depends on your location, the instructor's experience and reputation, the student's age, and whether the lesson includes extras like a video analysis of the player's performance.

Many coaches offer lower prices per lesson if you purchase a package that includes 6 or 10 lessons. The average package prices are:

  • 6 pack of 30-minute lessons: $270 – $420
  • 6 pack of 1-hour lessons: $450 – $720
  • 10 pack of 30-minute lessons: $400 – $600
  • 10 pack of 1-hour lessons: $700 – $1,100

Are private baseball lessons worth it?

Private baseball lessons may be worth it if your child currently plays the sport, loves it, and has expressed an interest in improving their skills and performance. Private lessons can help your child advance their skills, develop good habits, and avoid forming bad habits.

Motivation and a drive to improve are key factors in whether or not the lessons will actually help your child. It's important for your child to practice in between private lessons.

Children who receive private baseball lessons are usually more likely to advance to playing at higher levels than children who only receive group coaching during regular team practice. However private lessons don't guarantee your child will play collegiate or professional baseball.

What is the difference between private and semi-private baseball lessons?

In a private baseball lesson, the athlete trains one-on-one with an instructor who tailors the lesson specifically to their needs and skill level. In a semi-private lesson, two athletes work together with one instructor. Semi-private lessons, also called partner lessons, typically cost 10% to 20% less than private lessons. However, because the trainer's attention is divided between the two athletes, the athletes don't get the same level of individualized instruction as they would in a private lesson.

What age should you start pitching lessons?

Baseball instructors generally recommend that children start pitching lessons at around 8 to 12 years old, though there are no age requirements or exact rules. Learning fundamental pitching skills early on can help your child avoid developing bad habits that will be difficult for them to break later.

However, your child should not start taking pitching lessons until they are comfortable throwing the ball as well as catching the ball one-handed.

We had Douge work with our son during the off-season and the results were amazing. Douge was able to correct his swing and improve his fielding by leaps and bounds. The difference in last season's tryouts to this season was awesome! His performance and confidence improved SO much and he was able to make a higher team than he ever had previously. Douge was able to identify what our son needed to do to improve and encouraged him to work hard to reach his potential. Douge is worth every penny and we look forward to continuing to work with him each off season. Our son adored him and could not wait to go to his training sessions!

My boys are so pleased with the awesome coaching they received from Coach Gab and Coach Mason. I have noticed the dramatic improvement in their game as we will often practice together. My 11yr old often talks about how much his throwing has improved. And it has. He has that little league wrist flick at the end of his throw. It is so awesome to watch. And My 14yr old is still amazed at how much goes into hitting. All of the moving parts and trying to synchronize them. When I watch him swing I can see the improvement in his coordination and timing. Just awesome. Thanks for everything. 14yr old “ I had a lot of fun practicing with them and that they are really good at coaching. It was a really good experience and it really helped me improve as a player.” 11yr old “Their the best coaches I’ve ever had in any sport. It was a good experience from the coaches. And it was an awesome time.”

Since the winter our son has thrived while working with Tom as his one-on-one coach. Our son's natural abilities have been carefully honed and supported, and in a short time we've noticed a significant improvement in mechanics. Obviously Tom is teaching and coaching "this player" and not "another player" because so many new habits have been learned and absorbed. Our son's batting, throwing, fielding and base-running have all shot up a few notches with Tom. And best of all Tom is a positive motivator, offering precise and relatable encouragement to our son, who continues to love the game. Tom's an excellent coach!
