About

Lessons in person or online!

I teach music and drums as a language, and like any other language, it is best discovered through conversing with those who speak it. As a teacher, I aim to guide you through your musical goals from this perspective, and offer concepts that not only build your vocabulary, but allow you to extend beyond our time together and onto a path of self discovery.

My teaching works with any style you would like to pursue, and I carry with me a plethora of educational and professional performing experiences to help you on your musical journey.

I lead my lessons through critical thinking and active listening alongside the technical work to help students become a self-propelling, proactive musician. It's my hope that when taking lessons with me, whether on a regular basis or not, that you develop a conceptual idea of the drums that can lead to a deeper understanding of what and how you perform through them.

About me:

I grew up in Apple Valley, Minnesota, and have had music as a part of my life since playing the viola at age 8. I ultimately chose to pursue drums at a professional level, earning a Bachelor and Master of Music in Jazz Studies at the University of Massachusetts and the University of North Texas, respectively.

While at UMass, I also became a dedicated marching percussionist, and won the Drum Corps International World Champsionships in 2013 with Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps.

Since my time in school, I have lead an active musical career, performing in the Dallas area for a few years before moving back to Minneapolis. I now record remotely for various projects from my home studio, and compose music for a variety of media, including podcasts, video games, advertising, and content creators.

Teaching has always been part of my work. I have been teaching both privately and through school public school percussion programs for over 10 years. I also serve as a percussion judge for the Minnesota Percussion Association's competitive winter percussion circuit.

Whether you're looking to pursue drums, music theory, or music production, I have worked diligently at my craft and am thrilled to share my experiences with you as you develop your own sounds.

    Frequently asked questions

Students are encouraged to share what they are most passionate about discovering, and we can then work to develop musical concepts and technique programs through this. This can vary from learning a new style, technique work, audition preparation, theory lessons, etc.

I try to limit supplemental material, but additional resources may be needed from students depending on their interests.

Lessons are $50/hour, or $30/30 minutes and can be in person at my home studio or online. I have a top tier recording and camera system to allow for a seamless experience over Zoom or similar means.

For in person lessons, I ask that students provide proof of their Covid-19 vaccination, as I frequently come into contact with people with a higher than average medical risk.

I have worked with students of all ages, from 3-65+, as well as those with special needs and other considerations.
