Dan is able to adjust his curriculum and teaching style for all types of students. I happen to have taken up percussion late in life and Dan has no problem pivoting from teaching mostly youth, to someone like me. I’m sure he adjusts similarly for students of all ages, abilities, and communication styles.

Dan is one of the best teachers I have ever had and i only get to see him once a a week. He is so supportive and knowledgeable regarding music and teaching. Hes very accessible for any scheduling issues and has helped a lot over the years improve my skill and prepare me for any and all performances.

Dan is a talented percussion instructor whom has been instrumental in the advancement of my daughter’s percussion skills and performance (beyond peers and school curriculum). His success as a teacher is attributed to the combination of his skills/experience as a musician-performer and his ability to assess students’ learning level/style to deliver personalized instruction (in a calming environment). I highly recommend Dan to any new or existing percussion player.

Dan is super patient with his students and very easy-going. Hes also very personable and is very easy to connect with if you ever have questions. Dan is really good at drumming, too...wish I had him as a teacher growing up!

Dan is very friendly, prompt, and flexible when things come up for families. My son(9) has been working with Dan (Drums) for about 2 years now and says he is always nice and makes it fun. Dad also is great about individual music genre preferences. My son loves Imagine Dragons and music like that so he teaches with those songs to keep him interested.

    Frequently asked questions

Most of the lessons are given at Bongo's and Bud's Music Center in Hopkins, Minnesota. As an alternative, I am able to come to your home for a slightly higher fee, if my schedule permits.

For students who are already, or soon to be, involved in a music program at school, my lessons support and supplement the school program--they do not replace it.  I strongly encourage students to become involved in a school music program.

I have played drums & percussion for more than 45 years. I have taken many classes at the high school & college level involving music performance, theory, composition, etc. I have participated in many different types of musical events - musical theater, concert band, jazz trio, variety band, just to name a few.

I charge $25 per 30 minute lesson. I understand that students/families are busy, so I am as flexible as possible regarding missed/rescheduled lessons.

I am a social worker by profession and have always enjoyed helping/teaching others. Teaching percussion is a wonderful fit for me. I love it and actually find it to be therapeutic.

Many different types - from a 4 year old boy (grandma sat in on the lessons) to an 80 year old retired nurse. Kids in foster care, siblings with their dad, non-verbal high school boy, other high school students, adults learning drums for the first time or getting back into it.

I have helped facilitate and coordinate recitals as part of my role at Bongo's and Buds' Music Center. I really enjoy the spring recital, that is held outside at the park near the store in Hopkins.

Give some thought to what you'd like to learn and relay that to the teacher.

    1) What do I enjoy about drumming?

    2) Am I willing to practice regularly in order to improve my skills (and have more fun!)

    3) Do I want to learn snare drum, drum set, hand drums, mallet percussion?  All of these?
