How did you get started teaching?
I became interested in teaching in order to get experience and find out if it was a career I wanted to pursue as well.
What types of students have you worked with?
- Ages 6 - 20 (Older students always welcome)
- Beginner to Advance
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
MMEA, All-State band. I performed as lead trumpet player for MMEA, and played 6th chair for the MO State Band.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for the ones who push you to be better, not the ones that sit there and tell you "good". You won't ever get anywhere without true critique as well as working hard. Enthusiasm and passion means a lot more in a lesson.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
"What song may I use to show the teachers my current capabilites"
"Is this teacher going to allow me to become better, or just push me to play the right notes"
"What am I aiming towards when it comes to music in general"
