Dance Lessons

About

As lessons continue, I begin choreography in a way that highlights a dancer’s strengths while still training them up to par on their weaknesses. I develop well rounded dancers by creating and designing techniques that demonstrate their full potential

My favorite part of teaching is developing the clients’ dance skills and building their confidence. I like to serve as a conduit between students and carefree self expression. The work I do makes clients feel liberated and alive.

She’s super conscious about students keeping up with the progression of her teaching the choreography. I fell behind a couple times and she had no problem circling back so I could get whatever I missed so I could focus on learning the rest of her piece.

    I enjoyed my experience!
I’ve been out of dance for a while and was very intimidated to start again.
Lauryn made each class super fun and easy! She was patient and encouraging. She focused on technique and energy. Pushing me to my limit at times. I learned a full routine in just a few days. I look forward to taking more classes!

    Frequently asked questions

We go through stretches and fundamentals first, which gives me a chance to assess their strengths and flexibility. For first time students, I usually show examples of the improper and proper placement of body during stretching. I always explain where you should feel the most tension to ensure you're getting the best and proper stretch. Next, we work on fundamentals/isolations for a few minutes to make sure our bodies are fully stretched and warmed up. During fundamentals, I make sure to include certain movements that are fall within the most challenging parts of the choreography. When I teach the actual piece afterwards, students are already familiar with some basic movements, resulting in a better overall experience. When beginning to teach a piece, I will typically split into 3 or 4 parts. I teach one part at a time, review it with counts, then with music at reduced speed, and finally again with full speed music. After I've taught each part, I run the piece altogether with counts and then a few times with music.

I studied dance in college and have experience with teaching, assistant teaching, as well as wedding choreography. I have performed as a backup dancer at several live performances and showcases. I joined an adult urban hip hop team and competed this past year. I was also involved in school dance clubs throughout high school and college. I studied choreography and technical training for 4 years in Central New Jersey, then continued studying for another 4 years in New York City.

Depending on the type, difficulty and length of training it can be anywhere from $10 - $25 per session. Class packages are always available for great discounts.

In high school, my dance teacher would ask me to assist her in teaching students that fell behind before and after school. I fell in love with the work so we choreographed some pieces together for her groups. Next, I assisted her in teaching certain pieces for her students. When I started college, I strove to further advance my technical training by joining dance clubs and entering events. I also looked into taking choreography classes in hopes to becoming a teacher one day. After continuing studies and training for a couple of years, I started teaching drop-in classes for children and young adults.

I have worked with groups of children as young as 6, teens, as well as adults.

Recently, I began rehearsing a performance with four other dancers. It has pushed us all to focus on our techniques and synchronization, while building our endurance. This experience has been meaningful because it drives us to improve ourselves as both individuals dancers and as dancers in a unit. Lastly, our overall experience is rewarding when we can all see our confidence and performances gradually improve from week to week.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I would suggest finding someone who is genuinely passionate about dance because it will show through their performance and efforts. I would also recomend seeking someone with confidence because that is an important quality that catches the eyes of a student, spectator, or judge—and lack of confidence will really show in your movement. Lastly, it’s also important to seek someone eager and punctual. It is crucial to start all classes on time and an instructor has to set a good example for their students.

Feel free to ask me anything regarding the class or your experience dancing. I want my class to be a comfortable environment for not only myself, but my students as well!
