About
Hi! My name is Ana and I am a recent transplant to the Carrboro/Chapel Hill area (and loving it so far!) I am excited to be offering classical piano lessons to local students. I have a degree in music from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, where I studied classical piano performance on a full-tuition music scholarship. I have experience performing in many concerts, competitions, and international piano festivals, and place a strong emphasis on developing my students' technique and appreciation for music in order to ensure long-term success.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
As I teach all levels, I have an individualized approach that focuses on meeting the student's needs and setting them up for future success. For any student, our first meeting will be a chance for me to get to know them both as a person and as a student. Beyond this, for students with previous experience playing piano, I will work in the first meeting to gain an understanding of their abilities and their technique and form. I will also work in the first meeting to get a sense of the student's goals and interests and to create a personal connection between me and the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As the child of Russian immigrants, arts and music were an important part of my life from the very beginning. I began playing piano at the age of five and soon after began classical piano studies with Mila Filatova at her piano studio in Manchester, NH. My education growing up involved regular recitals, competitions, and international music festivals, including the MusicFest Perugia in Perugia, Italy, and the Music Without Borders International Music Festival in Bethel, Maine. Throughout this time, I also studied closely with Tamara Poddubnaya, and participated in master classes with variety of other world-renowned musicians.
During my senior year of high school, I was awarded the prestigious Reverend John E. Brooks Music Scholarship, a four year, full-tuition scholarship awarded to one incoming student who will major in music at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. As a Brooks Scholar at Holy Cross, I studied solo piano under Artist-in-Residence Adam Golka and chamber repertoire with Artists-in-Residence Jan Müller-Szeraws and Saúl Bitrán. I was involved with a variety of musical and creative projects, including a performance on a rooftop with the dance group Bandaloop, a collaborative performance of Romeo and Juliet with the Holy Cross Theater Department, a collaborative exhibit with the Worcester Art Museum, and more. In my final year, I performed a solo recital including the complete Moments musicaux of both Schubert and Rachmaninoff. Currently, I am a first-year PhD student at UNC-Chapel Hill studying coral reef ecology.
