About this pro

Sarah and Jonathan Buckner have been Theatre directors, acting coaches, and performing arts teachers in both public and private schools for the past 23 years. Theatre and Acting instruction is their passion and they believe that every performer deserves the chance to shine!

Jonathan is the Theatre teacher at Ashbrook High School in Gastonia and Sarah teachesvTheatre at Northwest School of the Arts in Charlotte. Many of Jonathan's students are working theatre professionals as actors, playwrights, and theatre technicians.  Sarah has students working on Broadway, London's West End, and on National Tours all over the country. Most notably, Sarah taught two- time Tony nominee Eva Noblezada (Hadestown, Miss Saigon), and Abby Corrigan (Fun Home, Jesus Christ Superstar).

Jonathan regularly performs in regional and community theatre productions and also performs in CPCC's Summer Theatre series. Sarah is an accomplished Playwright and Director, and has won five "Best Director" awards from the North Carolina Theatre Conference.

As directors and educators, we LOVE helping actors of all ages! We work with students of all ages. We start with children as young as five years old and many of our students are teens and adults. Some of our new students may be interested in just "trying out" acting to help build their confidence, and many of our students are those who have "always been dramatic" and become seasoned actors until it's time for college auditions and beyond.

For our older students, we offer a variety of classes,  college audition assistance, and can help actors choose songs and monologues for university or conservatory programs and scholarship auditions.

For working professional actors (or those who want to be!) we can assist you with an immediate upcoming audition,  or simply help you hone your craft in a safe space to explore character work. We are here to help you get the part, book that job, or simply help knock off the rust if it has been a while since you have tread the boards!

We love that moment of discovery when an actor really finds the themselves in the character they are portraying...the moment that things really start to "click" for a performer.  One of the best parts of our job is when we get to witness and share in our students' journey from elementary school and see them flourish and build confidence all the way into adulthood, whether it be through acting as a career, for community theatre, or simply to have fun and create and building life-long lasting friendships!

We feel that it is an immense honor to be trusted to help actors grow in understanding of their craft and in their own personal development, and we consider our students to be family. We strive to live out the mantra that Konstantin Stanislavski, founder of "Method Acting", tells performers, "Love the art in yourself, not yourself in the art"...and we would love to give you the chance to experience that joy in performing!
