About

Hello! My name is Steven Cornacchia, a professional drummer and educator working in the Charlotte, NC area. Here's a little about my teaching style:

I do everything I can to teach my students as individual, unique learners, while rooting them in the drum skills they'll need to get accomplish their goals. I have been very fortunate to study under a wide variety of drummers and musicians over the years, all coming from different styles and temperments. What this means for my students is that I can develop lesson plans specifically for them, once we assess what your goals, strengths, and weaknesses are.

Many of my students are high school aged, and want to pursue rudimental reading technique and go on to college for percussion. At the same time, many just want to learn how to express themselves, have fun behind the drums, and learn to play their favorite songs. Often, lessons can be a mix of both!

Of course, when it comes to teaching percussion and drum set, I always stress the fundamentals of proper stick control, Moeller technique, rudiments, and reading – and how to use that to focus on groove, rhythm, and playing to music.

Maybe most importantly, I always stress the importance of achieving confidence behind the drum set, and how to express yourself in a musical way.

I love watching my students grow and progress week by week, and slowly over time achieve the goals they set for themselves.

Drumming and music are my passions, so when I can pass on even a little of that to my students and their musical journey, it feels great!

Frequently asked questions

I have been formally taught by jazz drummers for close to twelve years. As a teenager, I studied under jazz instructors like Jerad Lippi and Matt Greene outside of New York City.

Following this experience, I studied under Serge Volpe in New York, to further my playing experience with jazz, gospel, and world music.

Then, I studied under Jeff Salisbury at the University of Vermont, specializing in rock and blues drumming.

Following this, I studied under Quentin Baxter in Charleston, SC, to continue my playing in jazz.

I try to keep my lessons affordable for families, my rates are:

$30.00 for 30 minute lessons.

$45.00 for 45 minute lessons.

$60.00 for 60 minute lessons.

I also offer the option of a free 30 minute trial lesson, to see if we'll be a good fit together.

I have worked with a pretty wide variety of students over the years.

I've taught students between the ages of 6 to 46. Within that age range i've taught students who were complete begginers, through to advanced students working toward studying music in college.

I've worked with high-school students looking to improve in concert and jazz band, to drummers in their 20's and 30's looking to improve their hand and drumset technique for professional gigs.
