How did you get started teaching?
My Dad was a tennis coach so it has always been a family business. I began volunteer teaching at 13 years old by working summer camps for Country Clubs and Parks and Recs. That lead to paid private lessons by the time I was 16.
What types of students have you worked with?
I continue to be passionate about growing the game on every level of tennis from beginner to professional. I spent four years working with high level college players and currently work with high level Juniors, beginners adults and kids.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
This past summer 2018 EMPACT tennis camps ran 6 total weeks. We were able to successfully run that while simultaneously start Try Tennis Leagues for adults with over 80 participants.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Take time to get to know what type of Coach you decide to work with. For example some coaches are Coach Centric while others are Player centric. Its important to find that balance but ultimately all instructors at EMPACT strive to be Player Centric.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about asking the Coach what their tennis coaching philosphy is. For example. Does the coach cater development of individual needs on a progression level base over a series of lessons. More importantly will the Coach be able to connect players with other opportunties to participate in development outside of the lesson scheduled.
