I teach not just the violin but music. I provide context. I teach some music theory and music history. I think it helps to understand what you are playing and where it came from. I have degrees in composition and music theory as well as undergraduate degrees in economics and philosophy.
Also, I really emphasize sound. I think it's so important whether you're learning the violin at 6 or 60. Sound is so magical; it surrounds and stimulates us. You can feel the violin vibrate when you play it!
I love the challenge of figuring out what will help different types of people understand the music and learn the instrument. Teaching both kids and adults...

Super to hear from you. I hit the "going in an other direction" button by accident. I'm actually quite fine at the moment. I haven't been on the immunotherapy for over a month now and I still have another couple of weeks to go before I have to start up again.
The tumor has remained the same in some spots but has shrunk in other places which the Doctors are pleased with. However, Cancer has remission/regression cycles so what is is what is! Maybe I'll be strummin' the old mandolin again soon.

I started taking piano lessons this past year as a gift from my musically talented mother, and found Cristina through research online. For the months that I took lessons with her she was incredibly talented, patient, kind and understanding when I wasn't getting certain notes. I couldn't recommend her enough whether you are beginning or advanced. Sadly I am moving away from NY so won't be able to continue lessons with her, but if you are looking for lessons.
