At Sam & Rachel’s, we strive to bring the best out of our students. We believe one on one lessons are so important and essential to a student’s growth in music. One on one time allows for us to give the student undivided attention in the areas they require to learn. In big group settings, like ensembles, students can get unintentionally swept under the rug. That’s where we come in!
Sam & Rachel have been teaching private lessons on Long Island, from studios, in their homes, and even substituting for other colleagues, including each other. They have just recently moved to Brooklyn and want to continue spreading

I am enthusiastic not only about classical music but also pop, jazz, improvisation and folk music. My teaching philosphy is based on giving students a strong foundation through the methods of classical music training, including a customized practice plan to cover scales, etudes and an appropriate amount of technical excercises, paired with the opportunity to explore other musical styles, if of interest to the student.
I am sociable and patient and find it easy to get along

I also employ many techniques and strategies that I've learned throughout my studies and career that help students avoid some of the pitfalls that many people learning the violin fall into. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I then mix it with Suzuki books and basic music knowledge. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Sometimes they have their own choices of songs they want to play / perform and share with the family, so I focus on exactly what my student wants.
