About

My approach to learning drums comes from a love for the instrument. I have always been keenly interested in the nuance and uniqueness of different drummers and styles. I also work as a composer and my interest in creativity gives me a unique vantage point to help any drummer be as expressive as they desire!

I love working with students because I love music and drumming. I get excited when I see others get excited. Helping others improve and discover something inside them they didn't know they had is the best aspect of this job.

Brian has been both an amazing teacher and influence on our sons learning to play the drums. He helped him
develop new skills and most importantly, sparked a passion for music!

    Frequently asked questions

I start students off with the fundamentals of percussion. This includes learning snare drum (generarlly 6 months) before moving to drum set. I work in standard drum rudiments as well as focus on form, time keeping, notation reading, and dynamics. I also work with students to become more creative by introducing different music and styles.

Hello, my name is Brian Zimmerman. I graduated from NYU with a master's degree in music composition. I have worked with the Pulitzer Prize winning composer Julia Wolfe as well as esteemed contemporary composer Gavin Bryars. For the last ten years I have made written and performed for rock bands, orchestras, DJ's, jazz combos, and more. I have been a percussionist since 1999 and have performed in multiple bands. I addition I have been teaching students drums and percussion since 2007.

I charge $45 per half hour lesson and $60 per hour lesson.

I started taking drum lessons myself in 1999. By 2007 I was a proficient drummer and decided to share my skill and knolwedge with others!

I have mostly worked with younger students but I am equally comfortable teaching adults. Come one, come all!
