“Mary is awesome. Nothing phases her.”

Mary Kerwin has made a tremendous difference in my family's life. My son, Ross, had learning differences and physical challenges, and Mary taught him with skill and sensitivity, always acting as his advocate. Mary has been a source of support and inspiration for our entire family.

We need more teachers like Mary. Her coaching and guiding our kids and igniting confidence so that they will achieve success, not only academically but in all aspects of their lives.

As a colleague of Mary, I was always impressed with how she treated each of her students. I would call her the "kid whisperer" because she was able to understand each student.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

First and foremost, discussing safety rules. Then, going over the techniques we'll be employing, gathering materials, rolling up our sleeves, and getting down to cooking! This is an experiential, hands-on class where I act as a facilitator. The student cooks.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am an NYC teacher and a certified Integrative coach.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Individual cooking lessons are $65 for 2 hours. This includes all materials and ingredients.  Group lessons and cooking parties are also available.

How did you get started teaching?

I have been a classroom teacher for over 40 years and have always included cooking as a part of my curriculum

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with students from age 3 through 15, including special needs students.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

One of my favorite recent events was a Taco-licious cooking party for eight 10-year-old special needs students. We chopped, diced, and cooked up beef taco filling with all the toppings, yellow rice and beans, and ended with a "Make your own sundae" dessert.
