Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I talk to the prospective student about their likes & dislikes in the foods they enjoy... and work with them to create a menu of items we will prepare when they arrive. I will provide all the ingredients, the recipes & we will cook from scratch. It will be a total hands on experience for my students. Obviously, they get to take home everything they make! :)
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I do not have a formal college education in this field. What I do have is loads of experience & loads of friends & family backing me in this venture.
i have been cooking since I was 12.. and now with a family that consistently prefers my home food to restaurants.. I think that is certification enough to put myself out there! :)
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes, all my classes are priced at $200/person/class.
the class goes from 1-2 hours. And this price includes ingredients, recipes & the food you take home. Apart from this, for a whole week after the class, I am available to guide you through glitches & to help out with any questions you may have.
How did you get started teaching?
Friends suggested that I should look into teaching, so I decided to explore that as an option.. and I am happy to say, the people that came by as students.. came from as far as 20-25 miles & left so happy that they recommended me to more of their friends!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with mom’s looking to convert to vegetarian-ism; care givers of patients whose dietary needs have changed, and mom’s of picky eaters! :)
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Sometimes, experience can trump over certifications. Give a chance to experienced people once in a while! :)
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
No question is “stupid”. As a student, Please ask, any question you may have! It is my duty as a teacher to answer them to the best of my ability.
