About

Katya has been dancing since she could fill out a leotard.

The daughter of Russian immigrants, a love of music, dance, and theater was off to an early start. Her education came from Madame Athena Pallas of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. She later trained, received scholarships, and danced with Long Beach Ballet, Ballet Met, State Street Ballet, School of American Ballet (SAB), Boston Ballet, and was mentored by Alla Khaniashvilli, Bolshoi Prima.

Her Classical background, partnered with a passion for all styles of dance led to work in TV, Film, Musical Theatre, and Commercials. Katya is currently dancing, for her 6th Season, with the Metropolitan Opera.

Her teaching approach draws from her experience in classical Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Pilates, Floor Barre, Physical Therapy, and Theatre.

Katya’s students include YAGP finalists, Corps de Ballet with Salzburg Ballet, SYTYCD Contestants, Scholarship recipients to the Bolshoi Academy, ABT’s JKO School, Kirov Academy, Rock School, Miami City Ballet, Colorado Ballet, Houston Ballet, Ellison Ballet, and Alivn Ailey. Rythmic Gymnasts on the US National Team, Figure skaters, TV/ Film Actors, and lovers of dance, fitness, and movement.

I love seeing someone gain confidence and coordination and have fun dancing!

Seeing my clients build on skills and enjoy inhabiting their bodies gives me the greatest satisfaction.

Katya is one of the best and warmest teachers I have worked with for both technique and creative development. Both my 10 year old and I work with Katya and we have both made so much progress. Perhaps even more importantly than progress she teaches us each class the joy of hard work and love for dance!

    Frequently asked questions

We first discuss the students previous dance experience and goals for dance class.

We start with the basics of alignment and coordination.

We then move through an appropriate warm up, increasing range of movement and musicality, either at the barre, or in center.

After we stretch, we start using the dance space, slowly at first, until we are ready for jumps and traveling across the floor.

Class usually ends with expressive reverance (curtsies).

Depending on the student, I sometimes give exercises or gentle stretches as "homework".
