I tailor my lessons to every students specific goals. I understand that not every student is looking to become a virtuoso, and so I may focus the lessons for those students more towards the specific goals of the student, with some relevant music theory sprinkled in if it seems appropriate. On the flip side, I will throw everything a student can handle at them, if they intend kn going as far as possible with their lessons, but I'll do it in a way that is manageable, and most of all, fun. Regardless of a student's particular goals, I always make it a point to ask for favorite songs and artists, and build a specific lesson plan with that info

Your Electric Guitar Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do electric guitar lessons cost near me?

Electric guitar lessons cost $35 to $70 per session with lengths of 30 to 60 minutes each. Private tuition costs $45 to $70 per hour, while group sessions are more wallet-friendly at $25 to $35 per class.

  • For ongoing classes, you'll pay $170 to $315 per month with the prepaid discount.
  • Online lessons cost anywhere from $35 to $55 per hour and let you jam with a teacher from the comfort of your own home.

Are electric guitar lessons worth it?

Electric guitar lessons are worth it if you want to learn more at a faster pace, develop a better technique, and get customized instructions to improve your style. Only an experienced electric guitar player can understand how to help you improve, so don't settle for a general guitar instructor.

What age is good to start electric guitar lessons?

A good age for kids to start electric guitar lessons is from 6 to 10 years old. Another indication they're ready to learn is whenever they're physically able to hold the guitar and have the hand strength to press the strings.

Adults of all ages can also start electric guitar lessons at any time. With the right guidance and consistent practice, anyone can master the electric guitar.

How many lessons does it take to learn electric guitar?

The number of lessons it takes you to learn electric guitar depends on your goals and how much time you dedicate to practicing those epic solos. Playing a simple tune might take 2 to 6 months of weekly classes.

If you're aiming to rock out like a pro, expect a time investment of 4 to 10 years.

Are acoustic and electric guitar lessons the same?

Acoustic and electric guitar lessons aren't the same because these are two entirely different instruments with unique equipment features.

Learning to play electric guitar requires:

  • Knowing how to use an amplifier and pedals that create sound effects
  • Understanding how to adjust the speaker connection
  • Knowledge of genres like rock, metal, blues, and jazz
  • Special techniques like power chords, palm muting, and string bending

Learning to play an acoustic guitar means you focus on classical, folk, country, pop, or blues music. A pick is optional in acoustic lessons, and you don't need amplifiers or cables. Acoustic teachers also place more emphasis on fingerpicking patterns.

How do I find the best electric guitar lessons near me?

You can find the best electric guitar lessons nearby to suit your needs by checking out our teacher listings her on the Lessons website. Your local music stores are also great places to start when scouting for the best guitar instructors.

Before making a decision, you should:

  • Compare prices from 3 different teachers and ask what their lessons include.
  • Check out their reviews on Google and Lessons.
  • Request for a references list of past students to verify their track record.
  • Ask for opinions from other parents on what their kids think of the teacher.
  • Obtain a written schedule and contract before the first lesson.
  • Pay for a couple of sessions to see what you think before fully committing to a month's worth of lessons.

What questions do I ask when choosing an electric guitar teacher?

Ask potential electric guitar teacher these questions before hiring:

  • Did you study music in school, and what qualifications did you earn?
  • How long have you been teaching electric guitar?
  • Can I sample a lesson to gauge if your teaching style suits me?
  • What's the average age of your students?
  • What type of electric guitar would you recommend for me?
  • Will you assign homework, and how much practice should I put in?
  • What resources or books would you recommend for learning electric guitar?
  • Can you adapt your teaching methodology if I'm struggling with a concept?
  • What should I bring to class, and how long does each session last?
  • Could I get a copy of our timetable and contract terms?
  • What's your policy regarding missed classes due to unforeseen circumstances?
  • Can I choose some songs that I'd love to learn?

After many years not of playing guitar as i once did in my youth and wanting to pick it back up again as a senior , and this time actually learning to read and understand music and how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together and why , you’ll not find a better teacher to guide you than Joe. David is an amazing teacher! I've been working with him since 2019, first on electric bass, then music theory/composition/Logic and electric guitar. We've done in person and online classes, both of which have been great. He's incredibly knowledgable and patient. Anyone would be lucky to learn from him.

I have been a student of Peter's for a total of seven years spread over twenty-five years, first of the classical guitar and latterly of the baroque lute. I can recommend Peter unreservedly as an exceptional teacher with a rare breadth of experience of the guitar in all its genres combined with an equally rare equivalent breadth of musicianship and scholarship. Peter has many talents as a teacher of which for me the most important is that he wants you to succeed. From that grows confidence and ambition. He then backs that up with an acute ability to identify and analyse technical problems and how to deal with them. Peter's teaching practice, therefore moves on a broad front where the inevitable technical challenges involved in playing the guitar are combined with musical insight and encouragement into what is to be gained by overcoming them. This combination of technical analysis with musical sensibility I found inspiring and it propelled me to levels in guitar playing, which I would never have dared to attempt otherwise. For any guitarist at any level, the benefits of a good teacher are tremendous; it is all too easy, as I know myself, to reach a plateau where you can kind of play lots of things but nothing really well. Either that or lacking guidance, fall into bad habits which practice simply reinforces and which are then very difficult to correct. Or, the classic, sometimes you can play a piece well but other times not and each time you start the piece you have no idea whether it will be one or the other or why it is that you have no real control of the performance. Peter has the ability to sort these kinds of problems out and he sorts them out creatively and constructively in a way which always seeks to find the good in what you're doing by turning what were stumbling blocks into positive additions to your experience as a player. My experience of taking lessons with Peter was of a shrewd investment which fundamentally improved my playing. That was my experience and I think it highly likely that it will be yours as well. Real talent as a teacher is something not given to everyone but it has been given to Peter. For any player therefore wishing to benefit from the many advantages that good teaching can bring to them I would have no hesitation in beating a path to his door.

I am so glad we found Michelle of Take Note Lessons. We have a 5th grader and 8th grader who both actively enjoy piano lessons and are both progressing well. Michelle adapts her teaching style to fit students' personalities - we see this demonstrated weekly as our girls certainly have their individual quirks....and nothing seems to phase her! She's open and warm enough that they both feel they can talk to her and yet they quickly buckle down to work too. Strongly recommend!

I loved my guitar lessons with Yves and my son loves his bass guitar lessons as well. Yves has a proven approach to getting and keeping students engaged throughout the year with some progressively visible improvement to the song playing and various techniques. I started guitar as a beginner with Yves at about 40 years old and am still playing several years later. I love knowing i can play or learn any song i want thanks to Yves and enjoy playing with friends and family around. Truly an invaluable experience learning with Yves and invaluable skill being able to pick up a guitar and entertain myself or a group of people
