Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We meet each student at whatever ability and experience level they are prepared for. Begginers can expect a warm, friendly and supportive atmosphere to learn new things while experienced dancers can expect to be challenged and engaged in a positive and constructive way.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our pre-professional ballet teachers follow the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum and are certified to teach by ABT - more information on this groundbreaking program is available at ABT.org. In addition to this, all of our staff have extensive dance training and professional experiance in their areas of expertise. Our StoryDance teachers are highly experienced in working with young children from ages 20 months through 7 years old.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Price varies based on the program and age of the student but everyone is welcome to take a free trial class to come meet us and see the beautiful Summerlin Area facility!
How did you get started teaching?
Soulfire Studios was opened in 2011 with the goal of bringing artistic excellence in a positive and uplifting enviroment to the Las Vegas Community. We filter all of our client interactions through the goal of making our community a better and stronger one. Soulfire Studios exists to help change negative thinking into positive thinking, to help those around us find joy, hope, and faith; most of all we will seek to lift the spirits and engage the soul of all those we are blessed to come in contact with.
What types of students have you worked with?
We've worked with dancers ranging in agre from 18 months all the way throguh 83 years old and with absolute beginners all the way through seasoned professionals! We enjoy every stage of dance training and do everything we can to enrich each client regaurdless of their past experience or lack thereof.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We just added a new Tea Party and Mini camp for ages 3-8yrs based on the new Disney Movie Moana - the camp was a blast! We had face painting, story-time, dancing with beautiful polenesian costumes, an adorable themed tea party and then all the little dancers got to make a keepsake craft! It was so much fun and makes a nice addition to our regular list of camps incuding our Princess Camp, Pinkaliciou Camp, Frozen Camp, Tinker Bell Tea and so many more. For the Adult dancers we have a new class this year that is a cardio dance fitness on Saturdays with Cassie - that class is a super fun way to burn of some calories!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Especially in Ballet - above all else, you need to know what curriculum your instructor is using. Having an impressive professional bio is not enough to qualify a dancer to be a dance TEACHER. Compare it to learning math - just because someone is an engineer does not mean they remeber what a kindergardener or 3rd grader or even a high school senior needs to be learning at their exact age and ability. Whenever you are talking baout a physical activity, you need to be certain that your student wll not be thrown too much to fast and risk a potentially serious injury. A qualified instructor will be able to break their curriculum down for you in very specific ways and show you how it progresses in a healthy way from the basic all the way to the advanced steps. There are many good dance curriculums available and a variety of ways instructors can be accredited to teach those methods. We highly reccomend ABT's National Training Curriculum and you can learn more about it at ABT.org but it is by no means the only available method - be sure you know which method any ballet teacher is following and be very wary of those who do not use a set curriculum.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Knowing your goals as a dancer (or dance parent) can be extremely helpful in letting a teacher place you in the right course. Are you looking for a fun way for your child to socialize? Are you hoping they could make a career as an artist? Is your student very serious? reserved? outgoing? energetic? Do you want to enhance those qualities with a class or are you looking to bring out the opposite qualities? If the classes ar fo yourself - are you looking to refine existing skills or add new ones? All of these answers can be most helpful to getting you in the perfect class!
