Flamenco Latino
About
I have been playing flamenco guitar for over 40 years and know all the aspects of flamenco dance and flamenco cante accompaniment. When I arrived in NYC in 1974, it was to pursue a jazz guitar career. I did this for 6-7 years, including switching instruments to bass in order to work more often. I also played with many Salsa bands during the late 1970s. I came back to guitar and flamenco style a few years after my wife, dancer Aurora Reyes, had gotten into flamenco and studied in Spain on her own. I have been to Spain for extended trips during the 1980s, and have worked with many dance companies. We formed our own company Flamenco Latino in late 1979 in order to develop a modern version of the genre known as "La Ida y Vuelta," which represents influence on Spain from the Hispanic Caribbean. Rumba flamenca is one of the Ida y Vuelta forms - especially the popular Gipsy Kings. I know this form inside out as well.
