About

Let’s dance!

My name is Zuri and I have been dancing for 23 years and teaching dance for 9 years. I am currently a professional dancer who studied Dance Theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC. I have been trained in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Modern, Hip- Hop and African Dance. Since I graduated in 2016, I have performed in 8 Musicals and Productions around the country. I currently dance with a Company called Caston & Company in the city and teach 10 dance classes in performing arts centers and elementary schools throughout the city. Teaching is a tremendous passion of mine. I love helping my students improve their technique, flexibility, musicality, and choreography skills. I am looking forward to developing an individualized class for you that fits your specific needs and helps you achieve your goals. I believe every dancer is different, and I strive to cater to all my student’s specific needs. Whether it be improving your technique, maintaining a split, learning how to pick up choreography better, or just dancing to get in a good work out, I have all the tools you need as well as real-world dance experience to help you achieve your goals. Thanks for visiting my profile! Looking forward to working with you!

My work is very rewarding. I love the look on my students faces when they get a move right for the first time. They are estatic! They are so happy that their body was able to repeat the movement as I showed it. I also love when my sudents execute my vision exactly the way I pictured it in my head. When I teach them a combination, or a piece for a recital and they execute all the movements exactly the way I invisioned it in my living room. It's a really great feeling! I am so lucky to be able to do this job.

Frequently asked questions

I will first have a conversation with the student about their goals for the class. I will see if they have taken this cass before or if they are new to the genre. On the first day, I typically hold an assesment class with the student just to see where they are dance wise. I will do a few progressions across the floor, and some short combinations to test the students abilities.

I have a Dance Theatre Certification from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC. I have trained in Tap, Jazz, Balet, Hip-Hop, African Dance, Modern and Contemporary.

For privates, I usually charge $55 per lesson and then how ever much the studio rental fee is. So if the lesson is $75/hr then it is a $55 lesson plus a $20 studio rental fee.

I charge a lower rate for groups of 2 or more.

2 people- $50/hr plus studio rental fee

3 or more people- $45/hr plus studio rental fee

The first class I ever taught, I was only 12 years old. I taught a volunteer beginner hip-hop class for underpriviledged kids. I was so happy to have that job. I enjoyed making up combinations in my room and teaching them to the kids. I was mean't to be a teacher. Everything about it excites me. The choreograpahing, planning, teaching, and working on technique. It's all very fun to me! I started at the age of 12 and haven't stopped since. I guess I can really say that I have been teaching for 14 years lol, but I don't include the 12 year old teaching on my resume since I was so young.

I have worked with a diverse group of students from students who have never danced before in their lives, to students who have been dancing their whole lives. I have, and currenty work with children with autism.
