Hi! As a violin teacher with over a decade of experience, I'm confident teaching everyone from absolute beginners to advanced, pre-conservatory students. I'm a classically-trained violinist with a BM (2014) and MM (2016) in Violin Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and I'm the first violinist for the ASTRAEUS String Quartet as well as the concertmaster for the Emo Orchestra. My students learn from a personalized curriculum that draws from the methodologies of Shinichi Suzuki, Mimi Zweig, and my late mentor, Juilliard violin professor Shirley Givens. I teach not just the violin but music. I provide context. I teach some music theory and music history. I think it helps to understand what you are playing and where it came from. I have degrees in composition and music theory as well as undergraduate degrees in economics and philosophy. Also, I really emphasize sound. I think it's so important whether you're learning the violin at 6 or 60. Sound is so magical; it surrounds and stimulates us. You can feel the violin vibrate when you play it!
