Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The Dance Conservatory will do a brief assessment of all new students and place them in classes that are appropriate for their age and the development of the student. The faculty and director continually monitor students and adjust levels as appropriate.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
The owner and director of The Dance Conservatory, Justin Wingenroth, has extensive professional experience in dance ranging from theme parks to dance companies to Broadway national tours. He is certified in American Ballet Theatre's National Training Curriculum in Levels Pre-Primary through 7. The entire faculty of The Dance Conservatory has comparable training and professional experience. Read more about them on our website.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is based on 32 classes for a school year, which concludes in June. The more classes per week that a student takes, the cheaper each class becomes. There are four levels of pricing: Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Annual, and Annual. The best deal is the Annual payment. We pride ourselves in offering a pricing suitable for everyone's budget. Sibling discounts are also provided.
How did you get started teaching?
Justin started teaching at age 18 while he was still in training for his professional career. He took a hiatus from teaching to pursue his performing aspirations. About 8 years ago, he started teaching again and has found greater fulfillment being able to pass on his knowledge and experience to future generations of dancers.
What types of students have you worked with?
Justin generally teaches students ages 7 to adult. The faculty at The Dance Conservatory has many years of combined expeirence working with a variety of students ages and abilities. We collectively strive to help each student achieve their personal optimal performance level.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am fond of and inspired by many dance performances available in NYC. From Broadway shows to American Ballet Theatre to the wealth of companies who perform at venues like The Joyce and City Center.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Read up on the experience of the faculty and come and try a class with them. It's important that you feel comfortable and confident in their abilities and that they make you feel comfortable and confident in yours.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What inspires you as a student? What are your goals - 1 month, 3 months, 1 year, 3 years, etc?
