What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I ask my students lot of questions. In order for each student to truly connect with the text/lyrics and the character, the answers to the truth of the text/lyric must be theirs - not mine. If students feels more comfortable signing, we will use their musical knowledge of rhythm and dynamics and pull upon that to accentuate their “straight” acting for the monologues.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be prepared to identify to the teacher what it is you want to accomplish by taking acting lessons. Milestones are important and keep both the student and and the teacher on-task.
