About
Hi, my name is Jake! I am a formally trained jazz drummer originally from New York and have been teaching drums privately since 2016. I am versed in a wide range of genres spanning jazz, R&B, rock, Latin, and more. My teaching style is fun, engaging, regimented, and methodical, and focuses on the development of fundamental skills; you can find a typical instruction session breakdown below. Please contact me if you would like to discuss the breakdown of my lessons in further detail!

Frequently asked questions
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching drums privately since 2016. I have been playing drums myself since the age of 5 and have been fortunate to study under Ohio State's Jim Rupp (Woody Hermanm, Glenn Miller, Ray Charles, Diane Shuur, Tony Bennett). I have also had the opportunity to play under the direction of world class musicians such as Michael Davis, Andy Frber, and Charles Starling. Back in New York, I have held 13 seats for jazz and concert percussion in county and state ensembles.
Additionally, I have many years of volunteer experience and love working with kids!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
A typical lesson may be structured as follows:
1. Warm up
2. Rudimental work / technique
3. Reading (charts, solos, duets)
4. Play-alongs / playing to records
Specific concepts appropriate for the student will be explored through these portions of the lesson, based on the students experience, ability, and goals.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently performed with the local r&b group Honey and Blue at the 2022 Wonderball; this is the Columbus Museum of Art's anual benefit gala event that celebrates the art community of Columbus!
