Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For students that never played before I help them get comfortable with the guitar get their fingers use to the strings and find out what their goals are. Whether they want to just learn to play for a hobby or get in a band. Work at the students own pace, and make lessons enjoyable. For students that have been playing and may want help to get to the next level we'll go over where they're at, and show them short cuts and tricks that the pros use.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been playing guitar for over 50 years. I am self taught. Learned in the 60s by many area guitar players who were in bands, and listening to many blues and rock artist.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are $20 a hour, and if you're not sure of the lesson you can stay longer to better understand it at no extra charge.
How did you get started teaching?
I enjoy playing guitar and so many people I meet say they wish they knew how to play. It's really not that hard to learn, and if you are willing to put the time in it I can help you achieve your dream.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from 10 years old to 60.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher that gives hour long lessons especially if you're new, and have never played before. You just can't get a good lesson in for just a half hour. Also, don't pay much. I feel $25 a half hour is to much. Many music stores charge that or more because they have to pay the teacher and make their profit. Most of them charge more then that for a half hour.
