About

Alliance Acting Studio believes in harnessing the power within every individual artist, and that every body has a voice to contribute. I work holistically, taking into account the mind, body, voice, and breath, but also the uniqueness of the individual. My approach to working with actors is to create a space that allows the actor to embrace play and spontaneity, which I beileve are the first steps towards discovery. I am not interested in molding you to become a "good" actor, I'm interested in finding the good actor within you.

I am an actor, director, and educator primarily trained in Meisner and Gister acting methods, with additional training in Fitzmaurice Voicework, Knight Thompson Speechwork, and Viewpoints movement work. I have performed in classical and contemporary roles in a variety of genres, and have also worked as a director of musicals and new works. I am a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma with a BFA in Theatre Performance and Texas Tech University with an MFA in Theatre Performance and Pedagogy.

Frequently asked questions

I begin by asking questions about individual goals and specific areas they'd like to work on during my time with me. My initial "consultation" with students typically involves these questions: 1)What prompted you to seek out acting lessons? 2)What are two or three major goals you hope to achieve through our lessons? 3)What do you consider to be your strengths as an actor? 4)What are some opportunities for growth as an actor?

I then formulate a lesson plan that is specific to that student that addresses the goals we discussed. From there, I like to position myself as a partner in the student's growth, rather than all-knowing guru. I work very much in tandem with the student, taking what he/she brings and then using it as a jumping-off point for our work together.

I have a BFA in Theatre Performance and an MFA in Theatre Performance and Pedagogy. I also attend the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) conference annually, where I network and workshop wtih fellow theatre educators on the latest practices in theatre training and education.

I began teaching in graduate school, where I taught a course designed to introduce non-theatre majors to the basics of acting technique and how those principles might apply to their daily lives as students and citizens. I then began teaching at Oklahoma City Community College, where I teach Acting 1 and 2 as well as Introduction to Theatre.

I've worked with students ranging in age from 11 all the way up to 65. I have mostly worked with college freshman and sophomores, but have also worked with children on the autism spectrum as part of my work in graduate school.
