J Alan Davidson Acting Lessons

Hello! My name is J Alan Davidson, and I'd like to be your acting coach.

I am a SAG-AFTRA actor with more than six years of experience in film and television work, and ten years of experience on stage. My film work includes working under Paul Dano in his directorial debut, acting under David Boyd (director, The Walking Dead), and starring alongside Stef Dawson (Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Mockingjay). My work has also included appearing as a supporting lead in the award-winning Electric Nostalgia and starring and guest starring in multiple Life.church Loop series.

My time off stage and screen has not been idle either, as I have written and directed ten theatre plays to date, and have written, directed and edited numerous film and web projects.

I have coached multiple actors as an on-set coach, private coach, and guest speaker. I have also coached people as they prepare for corporate presentations and investor pitches, so don't think that this is just for actors!

There is no way that I could have achieved any of the above without great mentors and teachers.

I have trained with Act Tactical For Film (ATFF), where I learned SWAT tactics, weapons handling, room entry, and hand-to-hand combat for film. I have also trained on set with members of Navy Special Warfare learning small unit tactics, performing live fire drills, simulated missions, and learning entry and clearing techniques. I also have my black belt in Bushido-Kai Karate. I am also a PADI Certified SCUBA diver and have passed the Class 3 Combat Swimmer test. I have also trained in stunt work under Jon Bielich (Heaven’s Rain, August: Osage County, Hellraiser: Judgement), and Carl Kyle F (Anchorman 2, Cell, Dirty Grandpa). All of these things have taught me discipline, safety, and how to properly implement and film real-world tactics in a studio setting.

My acting training has been equally intense. I participated in the Georgia Area Renaissance Festival Apprenticeship Program, where I learned Shakespeare from Rivka Levin (a lead performer and member of the board of directors for the world-renowned Atlanta Shakespeare Tavern) and Improvisation and Character Dialects from Dave Dorrell (Artistic Director of the Georgia Renaissance Festival and Alum of the critically-acclaimed Legacy Theatre in Atlanta). I also trained at The Actor Factory in Norman, Oklahoma, where I studied under Daryl Cox (Arlington Road, Bomb City, RoboCop), Chris Freihofer (Casting Society of America member, Casting Director of Heartland, Hellraiser: Judgement, and Rudderless) and guest instructors including Ricky Maslar and Robert Haas. My acting training continues with scene study with Rob Pralgo (Furious 7, Constantine, Taken 3) and history of acting with The Walking Dead actor and Juliard MFA awardee, Keith Brooks.
