About this pro

People tell me they love their lessons with me because I not only teach them the steps, but the "how" of dancing: connecting with your partner, frame, flow, timing and how to enjoy the entire experience. In a one on one lesson, I am able to give you in the moment adjustments that can really enhance your dancing experience very quickly.

Our classes at are also a fun way to learn to dance and also be a part of a delightful community of people. My dance partner, Uwe, has been teaching dance for more than 30 years and I consider him one of the best dance instructors on the west coast. Our classes are FUN and full of great energy.

We teach waltz, Nightclub 2-Step, Swing, Foxtrot and occasionally Salsa.

I love teaching dance, not only for the beauty and fun of the activity, but also becasue I get to witness the joy it brings into so many people's lives. I always say, "It take a lot of courage to step through the door of a dancehall. But if you do, and stay, it will change your life forever!"

Step onto the dancefloor of life. You will be so happy you did!

As I think upon the dance instruction I’ve received through Uwe and Colleen for over seven years now, it’s with thankfulness for the skills they’ve taught me in social dance (Cross-Step Waltz, Nightclub Two-Step, and East Coast Swing, specifically), and for getting to be part of the dance community they’ve created. I so look forward to Tuesday evenings when I can be back in class and with my regular dance friends there.

I would be amiss if I didn’t give a special acknowledgment to Colleen Suzanne. She was able to teach me the steps that I wished to learn while building my confidence. She taught with unfailing kindness, enthusiasm and patience. Uwe and Colleen are a wonderful team; intellect and heart. But I’ve also been in numerous dance classes when Colleen was the primary instructor. She is a fantastic teacher. And my wife and I have had privates with her as well. It is with a sense of gratitude that I say that I would recommend her. If you want to learn to dance and have fun doing it, try Colleen!

I have been taking group classes with Connect to Dance for about a year now and it has been blast every second! Uwe and Colleen do a phenomenal job making the material easily digestible. Not to mention as a lead having the opportunity to dance with multiple follows, helps one prepare for the social dance floor.

The private lessons are fully catered to what the student needs. Colleen in these private lessons observes your dancing and pinpoints and help you with your areas of challenge. Then her coaching and modeling and practice help you really improve.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I work with students in two ways:

1. Private lessons. We usually meet at the Polish Library in north Portland, most often on Thursdays, Fridays or weekends when the hall is available. The lessons are generally 60 minutes and can be for an individual or a couple. Occaseionally I have peopel ask for a lesson with friends so we have have a small group of four people. Lessons are $75/ hour for 1-2 people, $15/ additional person.

2. Wonderful group classes! Uwe and I teach at the Laurelhurst Club on Monday nights and at the Polish Library on Tuesday nights. Please check the class offerings at our website to see the current classes. The sessions last 6 weekes and usually cost about $90-$100/session, depending on the legnth of class. These are super fun classes of wonderful people who have been dancing with us for year. An absolutley deligtful community!!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Peope ask me and all I can say is that my mom said, "You came into the world dancing!"

Family dancing as I grew up, high school dance team, ballet and tap classes and basically an affinity for dancing and a willingness to try anything once.

Uwe started dancing as a teen in Germany and then continued when he came to the United States for school in his early twenties. He has been teaching dance for 20+ years as a side profession. He is truly an artist when it comes to dancing and creates beautiful moves each week.
