Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Elesia offers private and group lessons for all ages, including adults. Lessons are tailored to meet the needs of individual students: one student might want to focus on classical ballet at an absolute-beginning level while another might wish to work at either an intermediate-beginning or an advanced-beginning level. Other students might wish to focus on dance in general, exploring and refining alignment and movement outside of the classical approach and curriculum.
Lessons will de designed to fit the specific individual needs the student (as well as parents and other involved coaches) would like to address.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Elesia Ashkenazy's love of figure skating began at The Skating Edge Ice Arena in Harbor City, California where she took lessons as a child. Passion for artistry and movement on ice led her to the study of classical ballet at a pre-professional level. Elesia has trained and performed under master ballet instructors in California, Oregon, Idaho, and New York City. In 2017, she was recognized by American Ballet Theatre as an outstanding applicant to the Project Plie National Curriculum Teacher Training Scholarship. As an adult, she returned to figure skating using determination, hard work, perseverance, and excellent coaching to fulfill her aspirations. Elesia currently works with several figure skaters and uses classical ballet and dance to improve her students' artistry, grace, strength, flexibility, confidence, and overall presence on ice. She is honored to pass down and share all of the knowledge that she has internalized throughout her skating and dance careers. The smiles she sees upon her students' faces as they meet their goals has blessed her with deep gratitude, and satisfaction.
Elesia is a member of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA), and the Professional Skaters Association (PSA).
