I am a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with a degree in jazz studies. I have performed throughout the United States and in China with jazz and rock bands such as TV Mike and the Scarecrows, Jenna Mammina, Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums, San Francisco’s Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, Amos Payne, The Attachments, Otto Mobile and the Moaners, and the jazz trio Beep.
I am experienced playing many different styles on the drum set and have studied classical snare drum technique. I am well versed in Latin American music— namely, Brazilian music and percussion. I can teach many styles—rock, pop, jazz, samba, Afro-Cuban, reggae. I have 10 years of experience teaching students ranging from young children to adults. I taught at the Wilmington School of Rock for two years, and currently teach at the Chestnut Hill Music Academy in addition to my work at South Philly Drum Lessons. I'm passionate about music. It is one of my highest pleasures in life. It's not just about enjoying the music itself, but also appreciating the process of learning and improvement. (But, of course, it can be frustrating at times!) I enjoy conveying to students what I have learned over the years and watching them grow as musicians.

First lesson is half off. You'll need to have at least sticks and a drum pad to get started. I'll provide some sheet music for the first few lessons, but after that, I'll require you to buy a couple instruction books. (If you already have some books, we can likely work with what you have. Also, I'm open to not working out of books, but I recommend it.) I like to work on actual music with students, so hopefully you have some songs you want to learn!
I have a B.Mus. in Jazz Studies (2005) from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. At Oberlin, I studied with renowned jazz drummer Billy Hart and classical percussionist Michael Rosen.
From January 2007 to March 2008, I studied Brazilian percussion with Jorge Alabê while drumming for his bateria, Samba Rio. I also studied Brazilian percussion in Rio de Janeiro for three months.
$25/half hour, $30/45 minutes, $40/hour for lessons at my home. I add $5-$15 to come to your house, depending on time of day and distance.
