Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
You'll need to have at least sticks and a drum pad to get started. I'll provide some sheet music for the first few lessons, but after that, I'll require you to buy a couple instruction books. (If you already have some books, we can likely work with what you have. Also, I'm open to not working out of books, but I recommend it.) I like to work on actual music with students, so hopefully you have some songs you want to learn!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.Mus. in Jazz Studies (2005) from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. At Oberlin, I studied with renowned jazz drummer Billy Hart and classical percussionist Michael Rosen.
From January 2007 to March 2008, I studied Brazilian percussion with Jorge Alabê while drumming for his bateria, Samba Rio. I also studied Brazilian percussion in Rio de Janeiro for three months.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$35/half hour, $45/45 minutes, $60/hour for lessons at my home. I add $5-$15 to come to your house, depending on time of day and distance.
What types of students have you worked with?
