Teresa Mastrobuono- Actress
About
I offer private and group acting coaching geared towards preparing for professional and avocational theater auditions and for college auditions. As an Equity actress who has attendended countless auditions and done numerous roles over a professional career spanning nearly 40 years. I know what is needed to excel as these auditions.
I have taught acting, movement, voice, and how to tap into and apply one's creative impulses in colleges, theaters, K-12 schools, arts centers, and rec centers throughout the Eastern US. I have been awarded two citiations for excellence in directing from the American College Theater Festival, and three fellowships from the PA Council on the Arts. One of them enabled to me to travel to Italy to study Commedia dell'Arte, a specialized form of Italian Renaissance comedy that influenced Shakespeare, Moliere, and today's sitcoms.
I have been a roster artist with the PA Council on the Arts Arts in Education Program for over 25 years.
I love seeing students succeed in all areas of theater. I love sharing what I have learned over the years I have worked in the profession so that students can streamline their own mastery of the art.
I enjoy watching the growth in active learners, and the energy and enthusiasm that comes with it.
Teaching also keeps me cognizent of my own process and enriches my work in theater.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First class is orientation and ice-breaking. It is important to me to establish a safe space for learning by getting to know the new student or students. My first interaction with students involves a lot of listening and watching to allow the student to reveal who they are so I can tailor activities to their needs, current level of ability, and goals. I use a lot of circle activities to establish an egalitarian atmosphere. My process is learning by doing. I included a lot of activities that cultivate learning and understanding technique and principles experientially. I try to make these fun and non "brain pain" inducing.
