About

UP is an intense, yet slow-moving and low-impact alternative exercise program designed to create a total body workout for all ages and fitness levels.

UP is not a quick fix, but a learning process to become conscious of your own movement on a daily basis and incorporate exercises into your day-to-day activities.

UP aids in learning to move in a safer, more efficient manner.

UP helps you gain an understanding of muscles and how they work to achieve maximum movement potential.

UP enhances the performance of amateur and/or professional athletes, dancers and performers as well as individuals looking for a healthier way to enjoy day-to-day living.

UP works the entire abdominal cavity in conjunction with the back, developing strength that is needed to support the head and spinal column for maximum spinal health.

Dance has long been a passion of mine. I have seen the joy it has brought to my life and love sharing it with others! I endeavor to learn and improve myself as a teacherhat is most important to me is first the studnet's safety. Therefore, I have educated myself in anatomy and body mechanics and am constantly learning additional methods of safe, accurate technique.

I will soon complete my ACE personal trainer's Certificate and a PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique) certificate.

Ultimate Physicality is a ballet teachnique-inspired alternative approach to fitness akin to yoga and Pilates. I am extremely firm in my belief that Ultimate Physicality improves the daily functioning of all individuals, whether or not they be dancers. I have had the privilege of studying this technique one-on-one with its creator, Marka Danielle Rogers. And the wealth of knowledge I have gained from this experience is truly invaluable.

I am very passionate about making dance and physical fitness available to all, no matter the situation. I enjoy teaching in a low pressure, nurturing and fun environment. I want my students to walk away not only feeling they've gained something but with renewed confidence in themselves.

Frequently asked questions

I first assess their needs and goals by conversing with them and asking them a few direct questions.  We then build from the bottom up (like learning a new language) and begin with simple movements with the goal of improving technique.  Once a movement is mastered then the student is prepared to move on to something a bit more complex.

I taylor each of my classes accoring to my student's individual needs.  There is no "cookie-cutter" method to my teaching.

I have overi 12 years' experience in several dance genres.  I danced with Charleston Ballet Theatre as a young teen on a professional level and took classes with the company every morning from the age of 12-15.

My lessons typically range from $35-$60 per lesson depending on the type of lesson, whether I must travel to the student and the length of time.

I am, however, flexible according to the student's needs.

I began training with Marka Danielle Rogers about two years ago.  She was a former dancer who has suffered two spinal cord injuries, the last causing permanent peralysis.  She has not let this stop her, however, and continues to teach with great passion aspiring dancers and to improve her personal mobility and strength by implementing the lessons she learned as a dancer and EMT (regarding anataomy and physiology).

Marka has trained me personally in dance theory (Pedagogy) and her personally designed method of exercise, Ultimate Physicality.  She has become a dear friend and mentor.  And has inspired me to pursue dance again and pass my passion and love to others through teaching.

In addition to working with Marka on many of our own projects, I am currently a teacher with both Ballet Academy and Dance Academy of Charleston.  I also do administrative work for them and assist in writing their weekly blog, which is focused on dance education.

I am constantly growing and learning myself!  And I draw from the lessons I learned as a dancer as well as what I am currently learning.
