About
I have received a certification in tennis instruction from the Professional Tennis Registry. I have taught tennis for 20 years and have worked with players who range from total beginners to those who have received Division I tennis scholarships. I have worked with children as young as five years old and adults as old as 70.
Because I have just moved to the Charlotte area and am attempting to build a customer base, I will offer 2 FREE 30 minute lessons to anyone interested. That will give me an opportunity for each of us to evaluate the other. If we both want to continue after that, you will be charged the going rate.
I use the Inner Tennis method to use the student's natural response system for a quick learning curve. Beginners will learn to play tennis matches after 3 or 4 lessons.
I do not depend on conventional, and often incorrect, wisdom about tennis strokes. Virtually all strokes in tennis are intuitive and in many ways not much different than other activities in every day life. What is most important is for students to be able to tune in to the natural rhythms of tennis and allow their mind and body to instinctively respond to the ball.
I rely heavily on teaching the student how to use mental visualization to respond to the movement of the ball and the racquet. In order to make the learning curve easier, I use special tennis balls for beginners so that they have more time to react and so they can reinforce effective and efficient strokes.
When I work with young juniors I will frequently also train their parents to do drills with their kids. My students understand that their key to success in their lessons is the use of repetition and practice time. No one is more suited to helping them than their parents - even if they are not tennis players themselves!
While many pros take months before their students are ready to play an independent game of tennis, my students typically learn to play a satisfying and fun game of tennis within two or three lessons.
My goal is to have the student reach the level that they aspire to. Many will go on to play in leagues and tournaments as well as high school and college tennis teams. Others are simply interested in being able to play socially with their friends.
I feel strongly that my job is not simply to teach the skill of tennis, but to help my students find ample opportunities to play others at their level and to make tennis an important part of their fitness routine and their life.
I love the expression on my student's faces when they see that tennis is much easier than they have been lead to believe. By incorporating their natural movements into their strokes, tennis quickly feels as natural as walking.
