When a student understands how the body connects with the vocal instrument, amazing results happen. I want students to achieve their goals and dreams. I care if they make their audition or sign a record deal.
What I enjoy the most is when a student calls and says, "Ms. Newberry, I got the singing or acting part or I will make my debut with the Metropolitan Opera or I just won a Grammy!" That is so fulfilling.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My initial questions are asking what their goals are and how they plan to attain those goals. Then we make a plan and follow through. Usually, writing down our goals and steps to achieving them helps us stay focused.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've had 20+ years of formal and private classical and operatic vocal, and foreign language training. I studied at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Mozarteum Universität Salzburg, Spoleto, Italy and San Francisco, CA. I've toured with my own concerts featuring opera arias, art songs and spirituals. I've performed in Die Zauberflöte, Rigoletto, Aida, Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Giovanni, Carmen, Hänsel und Gretel, Giulio Cesare, Dido and Aeneas, Porgy and Bess and Treemonisha.
